Browse Forums Kitchen Splashbacks 1 Jun 29, 2009 1:47 pm Doesn't anyone use tiles anymore for splashbacks? I am thinking of changing a few things in my kitchen as cheap as possible, so I thought new tiles, (I never liked them from the day we had them installed in our project home). Then, maybe new handles etc. I have noticed that nobody seems to be talking about tiles I have white cupboards and granite benchtops, so I can kind of get away with those 2 items for the moment. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks Sharon..... frustrated interior decorator, I have always wanted to do this for a living.. Re: Splashbacks and tiles 2Jun 29, 2009 2:17 pm Glass is definitely becoming more of a standard finish as apposed to an optional extra. It's alot cheaper now than when it first came out and people are more aware of it. In saying that if you're trying to do it as cheap as possible then tiles is definitley the better option. Mosaics are quite popular with regards to splashbacks these days. Something like this http://www.realestate.com.au/objects/pr ... 743346.jpg I love the look of this as well Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Or even the larger tiles, in a stone or porcelain tile in a 600x600 size looks fantastic and less grout line too which is always a bonus. Re: Splashbacks and tiles 3Jun 29, 2009 3:11 pm I've used tiles as my splashback as I couldn't afford to upgrade and I just went white tiles with a bit of funny sheen as the tile surface isn't flat. hard to explain, but I hope I am happy with them. Re: Splashbacks and tiles 4Jun 29, 2009 7:14 pm I still recommend tiles. There are so many out there and in so many different colours and styles. For the right client they can look really funky or just plain classy. I personally am sick of seeing the same thing in everyone’s homes. No offence to anyone. It got scratched from being cleaned and looked awful when the afternoon sun hit it with these horrid scratch marks down the middle. Tiles, all the way. Bullet proof and practical. Re: Splashbacks and tiles 6Jun 29, 2009 7:55 pm we have gone tiles as well the splashback was the hardest decission we made took the longest Re: Splashbacks and tiles 8Jun 29, 2009 10:01 pm We have just had a new kitchen installed and gonefor tiles over glass splashback. I would rather have spent the money on caesarstone benchtops then the glass splashback so thats where we did the upgrade. I'm quite happy with the finished look. So many decisions to make, it gets overwhelming doesnt it. Re: Splashbacks and tiles 11Jun 30, 2009 10:52 am We went in circles a lot to decide what to do. Glass was toooo expensive and Tiles (did not want that much Grout to clean) were not being liked by my partner. Ended up getting 600X300 Porcelain Tiles with minimal grout in them. They look like our Granite Benchtop from a distance. You can try those if you do not want the ceramic tiles. Re: Splashbacks and tiles 12Jun 30, 2009 11:12 am we went for tiles. Although im not 100% happy with it. we had to choose the tiles before i chose my kitchen and i had a hite kitchen in mind but once i got to our colour appointment i went with a totally diffrent colour and really thought the white stone bench would fix the prob http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn99/MissyTJ76/house004.jpg?t=1246324329 John, Tarin and the Kids Built and moving in to the Regent Grande with Masterton homes http://thebrownsaremovingtothecountry.blogspot.com Re: Splashbacks and tiles 14Jun 30, 2009 11:55 am they are Bristol Bristol Echidna Gloss. Ours will be Bouvari Gold Gloss, but look so similiar to yours. We are having whisper corian benches and s/steel splashback with silver glass type tiles (that will hopefully match the glass in the cupboards, like what you have). I didn't go the glass splashback as firstly it is still quite expensive and also it's just too popular. Still looks great though. I just read your blog, and looked at all your photos. Your house is GORGEOUS. Congratulations. Not long to go before you move in. Re: Splashbacks and tiles 16Jun 30, 2009 12:27 pm Yea looking at it now i prob would have gone a lighter tile any how whats done is done now have to look for some nice bright canasters or something to break the colour once i move in John, Tarin and the Kids Built and moving in to the Regent Grande with Masterton homes http://thebrownsaremovingtothecountry.blogspot.com Re: Splashbacks and tiles 17Jun 30, 2009 11:11 pm We are going for a gloss tiled splashback too with glass mosaic feature tiles. I really like the glass splashbacks though and the range of colours is amazing, but the textures available, the ability to add a feature to the splashback mean't that tiles was the way to go for us Re: Splashbacks and tiles 18Jul 04, 2009 4:57 pm I am definately going for the glass splashback, I think it looks very nice in a kitchen and it will be easy to clean! My laundry and bathrooms splashbacks will be tiles. DA approved Waiting on a few more Builder's quotes. Re: Splashbacks and tiles 19Jul 04, 2009 5:21 pm I am also going tiles. Had a glass splash back in the townhouse I last rented - much harder to keep clean than tiles. I think JohnAndTarin's looks lovely.
