It's very frustrating, when they did the quote they told me 7 working days, now they are saying it will be 2-3 weeks! And it's the smallest job they have ever done, if that's the case why is it taking so long? I've taken time off work to be here, and they prefer the owner not to be home I think. Oh well, I will keep you posted! Kyles Re: bathroom reno at a stand still 4Jul 03, 2009 11:19 pm Kylez, have you paid any money? And what cost was the quote for? Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: bathroom reno at a stand still 5Jul 04, 2009 8:55 am Hi Onc_artisan They have returned and now seem to be plodding along, slowly! I did get a family member involved, unfortunately it seems they respond better to a male! I have paid about a third of the quote. It's a very small bathroom, they had said originally that it could be done in just over a week, now it seems it will be at least 3 weeks. Any single women out there renovating, try and have a man around, it helps! Cheers Kylez Re: bathroom reno at a stand still 6Jul 04, 2009 10:09 am Does anyone know the regulations on waterproofing? To me it looks like they haven't doe it right. 1 coat in the shower tray, not even, with holes everywhere, and only 20cm up the wall in the shower. I would have thought it needs to go all the way up the wall in the shower, around the bath, toilet and floor. Are there any set rules to this? I don't know about regulations but in our house (not a reno building new) the waterproofing went all the way up to the shower head. All around the bath and shower base. I asked our tiler why it didn't go past the shower head and he said it's because no water gets up there. It's seems to me they should have done more in your bathroom. Check with them, but I am sure the shower base is just the first coat.. they need the first coat to try, an the reason for the 2nd coat is because the 1st coat will form pin holes. The shower recess wall should also be coated (2 coats) Also yes around the bath wall(s) toilet an floor. Are you able to take a photo of this? I'd be more then happy to see if they have done it right for you! An yes some trades if it's a single lady or even if she is married but is doing all the work, they do try an get you.. mechanics are the worst! not good to hear! Re: bathroom reno at a stand still 10Jul 04, 2009 1:30 pm the tiler turned up this morning to start tiling. My neighbour had a look and said that he needed at least another coat on the shower tray and the walls, around the bath etc. I had to send the tiler away, this is how it looks now. http://i734.photobucket.com/albums/ww35 ... 072009.jpg I called the owner of the company, he said he used waterproof glue on the tiles and that I said I wanted the job done quickly, so it's my fault! I told him I wanted it done to regulation, he said he's coming back today to put on more waterproofing, but as yet, 1.20pm, he's not here. The joys of renovating! If I don't laugh I'll cry! Thanks so much for your help! Kylez Re: bathroom reno at a stand still 11Jul 04, 2009 1:46 pm Kylez, Thanks for the photo.. I would be kicking up a stink big time.. That's a poor effort. I see your not having a hob (step) into the shower recess.. What's the go with the slab there? is that the original? or did they screen another one on top?? other words lay another one on top of the existing slab/flooring If it's original you should be having an angle to contain the water into the shower recess, then they screen into the waist with correct falls. This means once shower screen is up, only inside the shower recess would be wet, until water drains an drys.. Outside the shower recess it would be dry, only little bit water from when you come out of the shower. If you don't have the angle to contain the water inside the shower recess, it will go thru all your slab on your floor. There should also be an angle at the door way of your bathroom also! The walls should be waterproofed of the shower recess, no matter if the walls are rendered/brick etc.. also where the bath is.. Never seen anything called "waterproof tile glue" they say it does, but you need to waterproof first.. Ask if you get a waterproofing certificate... I don't like the look of it so far Re: bathroom reno at a stand still 12Jul 04, 2009 2:06 pm Couldn't find my picture that I did.. which would show you ALL area's to waterproof.. But I did find these for you; http://www.lafargeplasterboard.com.au/d ... pdf#page=4 http://www.everbond.com.au/Product_Rang ... walls.html The gray is all the waterproofing Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Look at the shower recess, you will notice the angle on the floor, an also at the door way.. that's what I'm talking about on the above post Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: bathroom reno at a stand still 13Jul 04, 2009 2:23 pm That looks nothing like mine! The young apprentice has just turned up, he's going to give it another coat in the tray and a coat on the shower walls. I might ask about around the bath too, not that it get's much use but better to be safe! I wish you were doing my bathroom! Kylez Re: bathroom reno at a stand still 14Jul 04, 2009 2:31 pm Make sure you get a waterproofing certiv.. if it leaks they will have to fix your bathroom! better to be safe then sorry! as that will be there warranty, an really by the product it shouldn't be tiled for 7days but hmm we shall see hey? that's why make sure you get waterproofing certiv! Also check about the angles! it's a must Take a pic an post it up once he is done an gone Also the end of the bath in the shower recess, make sure that is waterproofed! Hope all this helps, don't let them walk over you! Re: bathroom reno at a stand still 15Jul 04, 2009 2:40 pm You've been so helpful, will do all of that, and post a pic when he goes. I already pointed out to him the waterproofing at the end of the bath, it's got big patches missing. He's going to fix it. Will need a wine tonight i think! lol Cheers Kylez Re: bathroom reno at a stand still 16Jul 04, 2009 4:10 pm ok, they've now finished waterproofing #2. I think it looks a bit more like what it's meant to! what do you think? they even put fibreglass around the bottom edges and joints. God I hope they charge me more for this! http://i734.photobucket.com/albums/ww35 ... 009005.jpg http://i734.photobucket.com/albums/ww35 ... 009004.jpg I hope it's dry by Monday. Cheers Kylez Sorry!
