I was going to nail in quads along the perimeter, but then it was suggested I could also use liquid nails instead. What do you think?

Not sure on that one, as we have not laid our floor yet....

Glue would be quite messy and you will find that the walls are not dead straight so nailing will allow you to 'pull in' the quad as needed.
I would recommend that you pre-drill all the nail holes and have a good nail punch to punch the nails down. You can putty over the nails holes and stain the putty afterwards. If you haven't tought of about it, I found it easier to pre-stain all of the quad before installing.
