I don't want to hang around as the house is empty and there is nothing for me to do there and I have a four year old to keep entertained. Thanks everyone ! You have put my mid at ease, we are only living 10 mins away so I will get the tradies to call me when they are close to finishing so I can lock up when they are done. Re: Tradesmen Ettiquite - Should I stay or should I go ? 8Oct 25, 2007 9:25 pm If the house is empty i would just leave them there to do their thing and ask them to lock up on the way out, if you not comfortable with that the tradies if they mind if i hang around and make sure i gave them morning tea, i think it depends on the tradie and if they feel like they are being watched over and babysat for lack of a better word Building again . . with Redink Pre-start 04/12 Keys - 03/13 Finishing off. . . I did, however, ask them what beer they drank, and was quite prepared to buy them a carton each, as they worked their butts off, but they both refused! They wouldn't accept anything I offered! NEVER heard of a tradie refusing beer!! Re: Tradesmen Ettiquite - Should I stay or should I go ? 11Oct 26, 2007 1:12 pm louie NEVER heard of a tradie refusing beer!! That's what had me puzzled! They did an awesome job, so quick & accurate, top quality work, no hassles. His offsider was new to the country, and spoke limited english - most of his instruction was in a foreign language from the 'main bloke', so I could understand him not understanding my offer. But I really don't know why the lead tradie refused - unless they have cultural or religious beliefs against favours or alcohol. Re: Tradesmen Ettiquite - Should I stay or should I go ? 12Oct 26, 2007 1:18 pm They must have worked for a large corporate or governement department at sometime and had been trained to refuse gifts as it could be seen as favouritism or corrupt behaviour
I would have put the carton on their bonnet - so they had to take it Steve Re: Tradesmen Ettiquite - Should I stay or should I go ? 13Oct 26, 2007 2:17 pm Fu Manchu If you do for what ever reason decide to stay. Make sure you feed them with some morning tea and lunch as well as a few beers at the end of the job. Don't let your eagerness to move in compromise a quaility job when they are left to do their work. i'd say leave them be and to call you when they are done. WHAT……you kidding? Yeah give em a couple of beers at the end of the day…..but don’t pander to them. My thoughts on this one, go let them do what they have to do, while your around they will be holding back their language….hopefully, and regretting the whole time that your there. If you have to be there for a reason, do what YOU have to do then leave…..tradies like it best to be left alone to get on with what they have to do. Just my thoughts…….I know the boys/men!
