Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jun 18, 2009 9:45 am Does anyone know any good (or passable) sandstone masonary in Sydney? We are thinking of getting the sandstones ourselves and then get someone to lay them. Or any stonemasonary that does everything? Thanks Re: Sandstone masonary in Sydney 2Jun 18, 2009 11:48 am Is this for retaining walls? We're using Unreal Stone (www.unrealstone.com.au) for sandstone facing on parts of our facade - but they also do fencing, letterboxes, retaining walls. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Sandstone masonary in Sydney 3Jun 18, 2009 4:15 pm thanks stonecutter. I think someone else used them for their garage as well. I just checked out their website. We will definitely look into it. Thanks again. By the way, glad you finally have the title to land. Re: Sandstone masonary in Sydney 4Jun 18, 2009 4:20 pm hey sammy - thanks! The reason we went for Unreal stone over proper sandstone was the sturdiness and the cost - to do our garage facade in real sandstone I think was about $20k After 4 years - we're in! Re: Sandstone masonary in Sydney 5Jun 18, 2009 4:38 pm Wow! So stone cladding is cheaper? Could I ask roughly how much? Are they cladding over bricks? I just got a quote for $400 per metre square for labour and materials. We need around 50m2 so the total price is around 20k as well, which is waaaaaaay out of our budget (unless if we win lotto tomorrow) Re: Sandstone masonary in Sydney 6Jun 18, 2009 4:41 pm hi sammy - to clad our garage (front plus capping for parapet wall) and home theatre - it was $9k. I have no idea how much this is per sqm though. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Sandstone masonary in Sydney 7Jun 24, 2009 10:12 pm Sammy, you're not going to save any money buying the stone yourself. Unless of course you buy 100's of sq/m a year. Which I doubt you do. No quarry is going to give you a price even close to the price your stoney will get for the same order. Another thing, sandstone cladding isn't cheaper, "fake" cladding is. It's like comparing a falcon to a nice audi. Most people know the audi's a lot nicer and will age well but to some people they're both cars. We sell a random length rock faced 300mm course cladding cut from real Australian sandstone for $220 sq/m + corners. But, in both cases you need an existing masonry wall, if you have to build a brick wall in order to clad then you're better off building a solid stone wall. But at $400 sq/m you're not interested in coursed cladding, you're probably after a random ballast wall. In any case, to do a good job you've got to work pretty hard to make good money on $400 sq/m. By all means get another price but with stone you really get what you pay for. Good luck Re: Sandstone masonary in Sydney 8Jun 25, 2009 9:19 am welcome outdoor assets! Our stone cladding actually doesn't need a masonry wall for attachment - I think it's going straight on the frame. I love the look of real sandstone but just out of our price range After 4 years - we're in! Re: Sandstone masonary in Sydney 9Jun 25, 2009 1:34 pm thanks outdoor assets. I figured I was better off doing the real wall instead. Thanks again. PS any recommendations for stonemason?
