Like I indicated, my suggestions for screen sizes and seating distances are always based upon the many ACTUAL installs I've done and what I've seen that works and doesn't work. Both Matt and I regularly watch a 120" screen in a 4.8m long room (a mutual friend's setup) - viewing distance is ~4.3 to 4.4m - and sometimes relate that we think it might have been better off with a 115"... Saying that, if you now have a 4.5m long room to play with then a 110" may be OK. Re: 3.9m x 3.6m room too small for dedicated HT? * now 4.5! :) * 29Jun 24, 2009 2:25 pm Casa2 Couldn't you intall a 100" scren and then adjust the projector to only use 96" (or lesser) if the experience is not right. A bit harder to do the other way Nah, that would look crap! You really want the black edges of the screen bordering the image you are watching - it makes for a much more distinct boundary for the image and simply looks better for it. OK, no worries. Can you tell us how you are achieving a true cinema experience in your room, considering you had a similar sized room (as per Howie's originally suggested size) to work with? What is your video setup/gear? Audio setup/gear? What else has been done in the room to enhance the experience? Cheers, Re: 3.9m x 3.6m room too small for dedicated HT? * now 4.5! :) * 31Jun 24, 2009 2:40 pm at the end of the day it is a personal preference thing.. All I was saying that most HT enthuisists state that thx recommendations are pretty good and can even be conservative. When I go to the cinema I like to sit 6 or 7 rows from the front, whereas some people might like to sit at the back. I like the screen to take up all or most of my vision. To me that provides the most enjoyable experience. But to others it may not. Re: 3.9m x 3.6m room too small for dedicated home theatre? 32Jun 24, 2009 2:48 pm wakeboardandy most say between 1-1.5 screen widths is perfect for an immersive 1080p experience. This actually suggests that sitting anywhere from 2.5m to 3.6m back from a 110" screen is within the 'perfect' range In my opinion, and experience, anyone who thinks sitting less than 3m back from a 110" screen is anywhere near perfect is going about it all wrong. I can say though (again, in my experience) that most people who don't fully understand the whole home cinema experience and all of it's aspects tend to only care about how big their screen is, even if it is completely inappropriate... Re: 3.9m x 3.6m room too small for dedicated home theatre? 35Jun 24, 2009 3:08 pm Rodda That room really is small, and definitely too small for a 100" screen. I have to agree! I like that idea of moving the wall and making it bigger. Besides the 108" Selby screen, what other gear are you running in there? What projector, AVR, speakers? Not sure if that works? I was told the issue is the headspace clearance requirement on step 4.
