Mernda Villages 605Jun 24, 2009 10:07 am Why do people leave that stuff in their cars? Number One Son's mate lives in one of those streets - hope he has more sense. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 606Jun 24, 2009 10:17 am House-To-Be It must be fantastic to be in I actually drove up B.I Rd last Wednesday and thought I saw sheets in the windows Hope that the unpacking is going well, it's such a big few weeks when moving in finding a new home for everything (seems like ages ago since we were doing that). Sorry to read about the troubles with your glazing and B.I Rd Have you sorted it out with JG? We don't hear B.I from our house but you can from two doors down, I guess the houses block alot out. I wonder if S'land will plant some large trees opposite you? Might be an idea....... Have no idea what Zeta is! I don't recall seeing it on DH's car He is actually a trainer - Educational IT. All that stuff written on his car are Educational Software products. All the travelling he does is to schools to train the teachers and their IT staff. I don't think it was him or DD on that Saturday as I had the car most of the day - Netball, Info session for High School and then a Tupperware party in H'stowe. I wasn't near Bunnings that day Hey, did you have to get approval from S'land to change the render colour? I was talking to someone on the weekend who wants to change theirs. Hope you are enjoying the new house and that you settle in quickly Hope everything is well, havent seen your posts much, hope all is ok with the family. lol, your car logo is very similar to a furniture logo. The zeta is a posh open fire and cost $10k. I thought your DH must work for them or own them. The power of marketing didnt quite work here with my error...lol Yes we are gald to be in. Not using sheets, using keks recommendation of the temp curtains from Bunnings. They are doing the job till my shutters arrive. Hopefully first lot in next week or week after. They have been delayed in the making, then we are getting the rest in about 6 weeks time. The noise issue is being sorted. We have JG King and Project Windows on the go with it. It was a bit messy sorting it all out but Natalie King, who is a credit to their company has come up with a solution which we will start the trial of next week. We are having the bedroom done to see if the 6.5 lam with the double glazed windows works. We are also hoping this along with some insulation and the shutters will help. It is shocking but if we do it right it will fix it and make the house a good option for resell against those that havent done it in the street too. We didnt bother with Stockland on the render change. So many ppl are doing their own thing and they dont seem to be overly interested when I mentioned some issues about what some ppl are doing when they came to see us last week re our fence. You just need look at the letterboxes as a prime example. People are just putting rubbish in when it clearly states masonary. We had a slight issue with one of the pergola poles needing an angle, and they said we don't do angle side fences, so I said come and look at your estate and you will see angles! So they came down and we reached a compromise. Sewerage still isnt connected contrary to what we had been told, so this too will probably be the end of the month. Good news, we have a fence. We no longer feel like Gretel is going to arrive on our front door step. Cannot wait to get the shutters and some movement with the garden. Unpacking is doing my head in. Had to also move my daughter in to her new place last week and this took days. Just looking forward to spending some time in the house now. Am working from home for a bit and this might be the norm moving forward. we are selling and moving to the coast, if you know someone who wishes to buy in Mernda Villages, please visit this link http://www.realestate.com.au/property-h ... -107083288 Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! I agree, everyone seems to just do whatever after handover, although my land contracts don't state that a masonary letterbox is required, it just says it needs to compliment the house. Everyone seems to have the concrete letterboxes, so much so I'm thinking of getting a nice metal one instead, one that matches my windows and garage door in colour. It's the same here - most people comply, but a few are just a law unto themselves. Our landscaping guidelines state clearly that pebbles may be used as a decorative feature, but NOT over larger areas. I've counted at least 6 houses, just in our immediate area, with front yards entirely covered with pebbles, as some kind of pseudo-lawn. It looks CRAP. And yeah, the letterboxes.... Am working from home for a bit and this might be the norm moving forward. Good to hear that the noise issue is being sorted. I really hope that it works out for you. You don't realise how busy B.I Rd is until you move in. Our visits to the block last year were always during the day and the road was fairly quiet. Earlier this year when we used to walk down the street of an evening and check out progress on the other houses we realised it seems to be more busy at night than during the day, or maybe that was because all the tradies had gone home and the road was more noticeable.......... Zeta must be a nice fire for that price! We'll be installing a wood heater before next Winter, time ran out this year. Will be built into the wall in the family room. I love real fires and miss our old one. Ah yes the good ol' redi-shades. Cost me $70 to do most of my house, they were really good as temp blinds. You'll love it when your shutters arrive Great that your fence is up, we had our side returns and gates ($$$$) installed last week. Just waiting on the Landscapers to come around now. After 6 months I am really looking forward to seeing the front looking a bit more complete and to see if my design works Yes I had noticed quite a few houses that haven't followed the "rules" we actually had a S'land person come and tick off our colours and measure our setback I thought it would be a bit of a problem if the setback was wrong seeing as the house was finished Yep I have seen the angled fences too, the fencing guys are quite nice from our experience. We don't have to have a masonary letterbox, we can have anything as long as it's not a older style metal one sitting on a pole I like ours, it's different Sorry to hear the sewer is still not finished. Hope they stick to their target there! They've also had problems with the new road to Laurimar. Was supposed to open a week or so back then Monday just gone and now it won't be open for two more weeks. Woolworths in Laurimar is nice and big, the Residents in that Estate must be over the moon! We are all fine, thanks. Only popping in to check this MV thread one or twice a week now. Enjoy the time at home, must be nice to be there apart from the unpacking Andy, you must be getting close to moving in. I went past your place last night, driveway looks great So much progress in your release. Happy at Home Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 610Jun 24, 2009 11:23 am Bam Planting day is officially next Monday!! Ive sucked my little brother in to coming with me Im hoping that on Sunday I will find time to drill some holes in buckets my dad has (he has about 100 I think they're from his shop, who knows) and buy some potting mix/soil. that way we're all ready for Monday And GOOD NEWS!!! Just heard from our designer, and he has design drawings to go through with us!! Apparently there are three different versions, and he wants to see what we like and if there is anything we'd like to change and then we can go to documentation stage!! (I have no idea what that involves, but its another step so woohoo!!) Time to start a Bam thread?? Have fun planting Bam! You'll have nice established plants by the time you move in Good luck with the designer, hope the drawings/plans reflect what you and George want. Very exciting!! kek Our landscaping guidelines state clearly that pebbles may be used as a decorative feature, but NOT over larger areas. I've counted at least 6 houses, just in our immediate area, with front yards entirely covered with pebbles, as some kind of pseudo-lawn. It looks CRAP. And yeah, the letterboxes.... We are not having one single pebble in ours, just mulch but I haven't chosen the colour I spent alot of time driving around looking at gardens (for ideas) the other week, I was amazed in what I saw at some houses. There is a house further up in MV that has concreted most of it's front yard. I'm not sure how that got through! We were only allowed to have 40% hard surface. Some letterboxes are just plain ugly Happy at Home Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 611Jun 24, 2009 11:28 am Must be european (Im allowed to say that, I am one!) If it was up to George he'd concrete the whole front so he can fit more cars. He's already talking about concreting the only patch we have for grass Lazy bugger. Doesnt want to mow. You know that reddish gravel the PD sandhurst display has? Anyone know what it is? I want it around the side of my house! Mernda Villages 612Jun 24, 2009 11:32 am Bam Must be european (Im allowed to say that, I am one!) There is a house near where we used to live that concreted the entire outside space around the house. There wasn't one plant or blade of grass just a clothesline sticking out of the concrete Shock horror, we are having turf in our front! Gotta have some grass! I don't think there will be alot of it but it will still be nice to have some Happy at Home Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Ive been checking up on your progress elsewhere because you havent been on H1 much But you have to promise to follow my thread or whatnot School holidays count down!!!! I think they had Tuscan toppings (also called sunset toppings) around the Sandhurst, Bam....not really sure. It's not exactly red, but it has a yellowy-orange tinge to it. Was it the fine one that packs down pretty hard? Looks like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I'm sure they didn't use scoria, which is the only really red gravel I can think of. It's very coarse though, and a very dark red: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We have sunset toppings down the side of our house, and also for the front paths. Mernda Villages 617Jun 25, 2009 8:49 pm Aumann's sell sunset toppings - other places might call it something else, but it's the same thing. Lilydale toppings is similar, but lighter, more grey. The sunset toppings is about $50-odd a cubic metre, so pretty cheap for paths. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 618Jun 26, 2009 10:24 am Thanks kek! I like when things are cheap It looks great in your photos, I like the reddish-yellow-orange colour. Not a fan of grey so this is a better option for us. WOOHOOO (for me, for mums? lol) I have one week off where I can do whatever I like, oh the joy.... My BIL is half Italian, he said his next house will be all artificial turf I guess that is better than concrete Our setback is 6.5m and our block is 20m wide. We have the path/driveway all around the front of the house. We got to choose 2 trees and 30 plants plus mulch, pebbles, turf etc. They are going to need a fair bit of soil to build it up to the path height. I'm glad we waited to have our side fencing and gates installed after concreting as the gates sit higher which I like Landscaper is coming out next Wednesday to go through my design, I'm interested to see what he says I love school holidays, always have and always will. Love the change of pace and doing things with the kids. They love it too, I can see some PJ day's locked in the HT DH and I watched Quantum of Solace last night then Bad Boys II.......I'm sure entirely sure how Bad Boys got on (DH loves it) it was midnight by the time I got to bed. Hope you enjoy your week off Grace16 Absolutely! The DS's can feed the ducks, Hot Choc. for you, Coffee for me and cake all round! It's a date Kek, just wondering if you put some timber around the perimeter of your c/b fencing? Guy told me a few weeks ago when he came to measure up for the gates that the warranty is void if any soil or stones sit up against it. He recommended we lay a piece of timber in front of it or some expansion foam to form a barrier. Yesterday I finally went out and bought a clothesline. I went directly to Daytek in Preston, they make all their products there at the factory and sell direct to the public. http://www.daytek.com.au/ Example of savings - $160 for their 52m Rotary, $241 in B*nnings, $150 for the 42m $202 in B*nnings. Fold down single (10 lines) is only $65 and the fold down twin (which still only has 10 lines but split between two frames) is $90 CHEAP! I bought a 52m Rotary for the backyard and a twin fold down for the dead side of the house. I have prices for all their clotheslines so if there is another one you need just ask. They also sell wheelbarrows too I've just ordered our glass fencing for the Alfresco, I'm really looking forward to seeing this go in. A blog I've followed forever in Brisbane has just had the same installed at their new house and it looks great. On a sadder note.........quite sad this morning about the death of Michael Jackson Regardless of how he was as a person, father, husband etc he was a fantastic performer. I went to one of his Concerts in Brisbane a long time ago and he was the ultimate performer. Thriller will always be my favourite dance, my best friend Nicola and I perfected that when we were about 12 years old Last Friday night my eldest DD had her CPCA performance at the National Theatre in St Kilda, one of the classes did Thriller complete with zombie costumes etc, the boy playing MJ was fantastic, the crowd roared when he did the moonwalk. I hope that his three children can move onto a bit of a normal life now. Farrah lost her battle too, that poor woman went through so much, probably a good thing that her battle with Cancer has ended Happy at Home Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up!
