Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 22, 2009 6:52 pm Hi style gurus, I have to confirm my kitchen colours tomorrow and I have one little dilemma. It is a U shaped kitchen. The back wall will have my rangehood with a glass splashback behind it to the ceiling. Parallel to that, facing the family dining, will be a long bench, half of which will be a breakfast bar (ie with half depth cupboards, so you can tuck two stools in under the bench, and a waterfall end). The layout is sort of like this, only my kitchen is bigger: http://www.kamjoinery.com.au/library/wshowroom03.jpg We will be having 40mm Quantum Quartz Coco bench top and the glass splashback will be Starphire glass in Dulux Sea Breeze 1/2. Cupboards will be in Alabaster. We will have a feature wall in the family room of Dulux Post Boy to complement the splashback in the kitchen. My question is this: Should the back/feature panel of the breakfast bar part of my bench (where the stools tuck in) be in blue to echo the glass splashback, or should it just be in the plain Alabaster colour? I'm trying to achieve a classic elegant kitchen (and I love pale blue), but not sure if this will be too much blue? DH doesn't think I should have either colour but I don't want to introduce a new colour (not that he can suggest one anyway !!) What does everyone think? One other question : I want to have Laminex Tribal Palm for my laundry cupboards: http://www.laminex.com.au/resource/imag ... l_palm.jpg with a dark benchtop. I am thinking of using Polytech Buffalo Stone. http://www.polytec.com.au/images/sample ... _stone.jpg Do you think this will go OK? Re: To blue or not to blue......? 6Jun 22, 2009 7:59 pm They should work…..only because you are having a really light flooring. White splash back tiles? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: To blue or not to blue......? 7Jun 22, 2009 8:32 pm Most probably - I have not picked the wall tile yet. I was thinking white or ivory - or even the floor tile (they said it could also be used on walls). It is a 330 x330 size. I have picked a mosaic detail tile in stone to go in all the wet areas. Don't have a picture of that, sorry. The wall tile is a bit tricky, because I wanted the same in all the wet areas, but we will be having white pre-made vanity units in bathrooms, but in our spa room (yes, it's a separate room from the bathroom, go figure ) we want to retain the existing spa bath, which is almond ivory, so not sure if white will go with that. Need a wall tile which will go with both, or have different colours in the different rooms . My laundry will be a bit unusual too, as it is a large long room, with half being the laundry with tiled floor, the other half being an ironing room/Mum's retreat with carpeted floor, dark green couch & small TV to alleviate boring ironing. I will be able to air clothes in there and close the door to stop visitors seeing any mess. I was thinking of painting the walls a pale lime green to offset the dark bench. Arggh, it's all doing my head in. How ever do you deal with this stuff every day - I really admire you!! (Hope I haven't given too much info!) Re: To blue or not to blue......? 8Jun 22, 2009 8:36 pm White and cream will work. This allows you to put some colour in the wet areas via towels and decorative selections. You get to change the colours when you want….good thing really! Very nice indeed! Green walls will look great. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: To blue or not to blue......? 10Jun 22, 2009 8:42 pm So do you mean I should put white in the bathrooms and laundry and then cream in the spa room with the almond ivory bath? I'm so excited about my laundry - it used to be the "workshop" and is currently more or less an empty room. DH will have two huge sheds on the property so I have claimed the workshop for my laundry . Old laundry will become a storage room with floor to ceiling cupboards. Re: To blue or not to blue......? 11Jun 22, 2009 8:44 pm No….same floor tile as your splash back through the wet areas, keeping them all the same. Man has to have his shed….woman gets the laundry ….think I’d rather the shed. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: To blue or not to blue......? 12Jun 22, 2009 9:03 pm The shed's a fair way from the house too - I never know what he's up to out there!! Don't think I want to!!! We are having floor to ceiling tiling in the bathroom and spa room, so was hoping to do that in a different colour (still neutral though, like white or cream) to the floor. Do you think white would be OK with the almond ivory bath (over the hob and up the wall?) Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: To blue or not to blue......? 14Jun 22, 2009 9:13 pm Oh great, that is such a relief!! I have been stressing about those tiles, because I didn't think white would go with the almond ivory, and I really like white!!! White bathrooms always look so nice and fresh. Now I can have white everywhere without worrying. You've been such a help tonight, Michelle - I only meant to ask the one question about the kitchen, but you have helped clarify all my choices, so I can be happy telling the cabinet maker to go ahead. Now I owe you two pictures, my Milton Moon feature wall and the laundry Hopefully we will get it all done before the next millenium - kitchen has been ripped out now and plasterer started work today on the ugly old exposed brick walls in the family room, so it's moving along slowly.
