Well exams are finally over so I can spend a few weeks concentrating on houses, houses and houses.

We went out and had a look at the tank. It's pretty impressive (if I do say so myself

). I've updated my blog with some piccies for those that want to have a look.

Still no news from the builder ....

dragged HB out to look at crosby's in myaree, went ok. Im indecisive but HB said, i like that, that and that, and i said, yeah whatever! im over it i think... im not sure about laundry colours, we've chosen a blue wave type thing same as both bathrooms,. but HB wanted plain black tiles. ill put up photos tomorrow. I couldnt get him to take me to brick or colour bond places! ARHH! so will just pick from our file.

Is Crosby your only option, or can you go to European Ceramics? We found their range to be much better.

Try and check out Homebase Expo in Subiaco for Austral and Midland brick displays, also colorbond swatches too

ladsos, you can pick your tiles from and place, but they need to be ALL from the same place. There are brick samples at Summit if you can't make up your mind on your pre-start day. I agree, Homebase in Subi is great :z:

lados we put black tiles in our bathroom and laundry with white grout when we renovated this houses a couple of years ago. they look great, BUT i dont know if it the water in Rockingham but we get this white calcuim look on the tile in the shower which does not what to budge. they look clean when they are wet, but when they dry out the white look comes back . so I will not put black in ever again.

I know Crosby's give samples free of charge. Other places charge like a dollar or a few, and borders are the price of the whole border.

A house in Bridgetown is like that too, the glass shower door looks terrible, and looks ok when it's wet. It is to do with the minerals in the water, I believe they etch away at the glass (or in your case tiles). On abc radio or somewhere I heard that it looks clean when it's wet because water fills in the holes, their suggestion was to wipe it over with walnut oil, that acts a bit like the water filling in the holes, but of course doesn't dry out, so it cosmetically looks better and lasts for quite a while before you have to do it again.
The only other real solution would be prevention, probably cost a few thougsand $$ to install some good filters, and they would have to be replaced annually (but replacement cost for cartridges wouldn't be anyhere near as much as initial purchase price).

Thanks Pebble I will give the walnut oil a go. As we will be selling soon, not to keen on spending thousands on a fliter( the house is not going to be selling for much anyway )

Hi Everyone!!!

I just came across this forum and thought i would pop into this thread and introduce myself!
It's nice being able to chat to people who are in the same position you are.
I'm Jem and we are building in Byford, we kinda stumbled across our block as we werent sure whether we wanted to build or buy established at that stage but when we saw the block we knew we definately wanted to build. We are building the Floreat with Scott Park Homes... although we have made so many changes it doesn't really look like the original one anymore ::lol::

Atm we are waiting to hear when the Developer is going to prepare our block. Hopefully soon!
Hows everything going with everyone else?

Hi Jem,

My partner and I are building the same design with SPH! Our block is up in Carramar.

I'd be interested to see what sort of changes you've made to the design. So far all we've done is swapping the kitchen and family room (now the kitchen is freakin' huge!), made the theatre very slightly bigger and added double doors to the theatre, and added a second basin to the ensuite.

We're also going to add double doors to the entrance, get the whole front facade rendered and swap the toilet and shower in the ensuite and make the shower double sized when we go to pre-start in August.

yes very annoying illegal rubbish dumping! if its the council land/verge, you can ask the council to come pick it up, which is a good idea before other dumpers add to your collection!

Hi locus! I will figure out how to put pics up and post our plans for you

We are also going with double entrance doors and rendering the entire front also. Like you we have made the home theatre slightly bigger and added doors and a recess ceiling.

We have also flipped the rear of the home from garage and behind master bedroom cause we needed to have the alfresco on the other side due to where our house is positioned on our block.

Ensuite we mahe a double shower with an extra shower head, we are having a spa bath, double vanities and we are eclosing the WC. Deleted dooe to Ensuite. We made the his n hers WIR one big one.

Rearranged Kitchen and we are having avonite benchtops and also a fully tiled splashback.

We have change the main bathroom to a Two way bathroom so the toilet isnt in the laundry.

Made all Robes in bedrooms 2, 3 and 4 doubles and added mirror sliders.

Put a bar in the games room.

Other changes just include exhaust fans etc i think.

Which packages are you going to go with?
We are getting high ceilings the aqua package and we are upgrading the kitchen appliances to 900mm

Wow, can't wait to see your plan - sounds like you've done heaps! Would be very interested to see your ensuite design.

We are doing the high ceilings and aqua package too. We have also upgraded our benchtops but think we'll go with Qstone rather than Avonite.
