Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jun 12, 2009 6:35 am Hi, I would like to close off my swimming pool. The dimensions are: - Length: 8m - Width: 4m - Depth: Lowest point is 1m, Deepest is 2.2m The pool is in the front yard. I can think of two options: Fill it up or build a decking on top. Either is fine but looking for the cheapest option. I have a lot of rubble from my current renovation which I can dump straight into the pool. Not sure if anyone has done anything like this in the past but I would appreciate your feedback regarding filling the pool up or building the deck. Re: Closing off swimming pool 2Jun 12, 2009 7:24 am what is the pool made of? My inlaws filled in their pool a couple of years ago. They broke down the walls a little ( it was fibreglass) threw in some rocks, garden junk ( including the old clothes line) and got in some extra fill. They now have a beautiful garden with paths etc. Re: Closing off swimming pool 3Jun 12, 2009 11:37 am My pool is made out of fiberglass. I would love to fill it up. As you mentioned, your inlaws topped it with soil. Once the debris is topped, I keep thinking that soil will fall down the cracks making it dangerous(?) Did they build anything special? water drainage? support? etc By the way, thanks for your response. Re: Closing off swimming pool 4Jun 12, 2009 6:04 pm I will probably talk to them next week. ( MIL birthday) so will ask for you. If i rang them this weekend they'd go into shock as that would be 3 weekends in a row. and DH would have a pink fit at having to chat to his folks that often lol. Re: Closing off swimming pool 5Jun 12, 2009 7:13 pm I see companies are offering to convert these into rainwater storage systems... probably the cheapest option and you will never run out of water. Re: Closing off swimming pool 11Jul 05, 2009 3:45 pm O oh! I'd have to be in with the 'keepers' points.. I'd be saying deck it with the 'fillin' saving, add some fish and a pump, they will look after the water quality and you could make some grow beds and plant some edible things in them. Just need a Removable lid to harvest the fish Lockable trapdoor Thats about 40Kl eh? Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Closing off swimming pool 12Jul 05, 2009 4:04 pm Ive been thinking of doing a reed be down the dead side of the house, with the reed bed all your shower and sink water (not the kitchen sink) goes in one end as grey water and gets filtered to use on the garden as it passes through. Im also toying with the idea of putting in a home made underground water tank down the dead side of the house, this is my fave option at the moment, just think of all that water. Connected to an outside tap I could even start washing my truck again.....
