I visited alot of the expensive display homes before going to colour selection to work out how to make our bathroom look luxiourious. Main colours throughout Ceiling /Cornice - Ceiling white Walls - 1/2 strength Cumulus Solver paints Skirting / Architrave - ceiling white - an upgrade, do you think it is worth it? Windows / Reveals / Frames - Black Doors - ceiling white Window Treatments - white plantation shutters when we can afford it Flooring - havn't fully decided probally white tiles from Beaumonts called Harmony Carpet - Charcol carpet in bedrooms from Suzie Wilks collection, Solomons carpets. ******************************* Bathrooms Wall Tiles - 97284 300x600 vertical - a rectified polished 'super glossy' white tile Feature Tiles - 97418 300x600 vertical - a charcoal tile http://shopping.tile.com.au/SkinControl ... /97418.jpg Floor Tiles - 300 x 300 version of the feature tile Shower Screen - glass with polished crome Vanity Top - Paprio Storm Vanity Doors & Structure - plain faced white Hardware / Taps - Polished crome Handles - horizontal polished crome ***************************** Kitchens Splash Back - 100 x 300 mat white tiles stacked Bench Top - laminate white valencia diamondgloss Cupboard Doors - laminex charcoal Kickboard - brushed aluminum Hardware / Taps - polished crome Handles - horizontal polished crome ****************************** Externals Roof - mid grey roof tile Gutters / Fascia /eaves /downpipes - monument Soffit to underside of Eaves, Verandas & Portico’s - offwhite Posts - monument Windows - black Doors - Manor red Garage Doors - panel life manor red Fence - woodland grey. Bricks - PGH Oyster So as you enter the ensuite and look left, the whole back wall of the shower that you can see will be the Charcoal tile. The other walls will all be the white rectified high gloss tile. It is a very shiny tile. The Charcoal feature tile looks like it has specks of black through it, and almost matches the paprio storm perfectly. In the main bathroom, the bath hob and the wall behind the bath will be the charcoal feature tile. I am hoping that by having the floor tile and the wall tile the same that it will give a sense of space, that the room will look longer. In the laundry we have put the sink in a cupboard, so the cupboard top will be paprio storm and the doors white, we have also put in a broom closet that will be Classic White. My first question is should we make the broom closet in the laundry the Classic white like the doors on the sink cupboard, or Paprio storm like the benchtops? Should the Linen Cupboard doors be the Paprio Storm like the bathrooms, or Charcoal like the kitchen? Do you think the mat white tiles of the kitchen splashback will look good against the diamond gloss of the white valencia? or do you think we should go for a glossy white splashback tile also? Do you think we should pay the extra to have the doors, skirtings and architraves the ceiling white? or have them the same colour as the walls? the cumulus. Do you think there will be enough of a difference between the half strength of the cumulus and the white of the skirting boards to make it look good and the expense worth it? Thanks edit : changed the bathroom floor tiles to the right size Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Do you think I will achieve a 'rich' look 2Jun 07, 2009 7:49 pm ok 30 people have looked at this now. does no-one have an opinion? Re: Do you think I will achieve a 'rich' look 4Jun 07, 2009 9:02 pm Hi netadelle, love your colours, coz they are similar to mine! I would do the broom doors in white, cleaner look than the speckly paprio storm (good for bench, not doors imo). I like charcoal for the linen cupboard. I think either the glossy or matte splashback, both would look great (have seen glossy and matte in all combinations of doors, benchtops and splashback that look great) I can't see enough difference in the white paint and cumulus paint. I wouldn't pay an upgrade for it myself, but that's me. I'd either do it all in cumulus or pick a different wall colour that shows more difference between the two. Good luck - buzz Re: Do you think I will achieve a 'rich' look 5Jun 07, 2009 9:20 pm buzz I can't see enough difference in the white paint and cumulus paint. Good luck - buzz I was thinking the same myself, as the cumulus that I have painted in the picture is full strength, and we are doing it half strength. I was simply thinking that if we did a feature wall and we left the skirtings the same colour, then they would be a different colour to the cornices. You'd end up with white cornices, feature wall colour, then cumulus skirtings. What do you think of having the floor tile and one wall tile the same in the bathrooms? Re: Do you think I will achieve a 'rich' look 6Jun 07, 2009 9:58 pm I like the look of the dark tiles on the walls.... unfortunately I didn't pick it! I picked charcoal tiles for the floor, but white for the walls in the shower. Only decided after the fact that I liked the darker walls. Oh well, I'm not changing it! Promised myself once I'd locked it in, that's it, otherwise I'll go nuts. But I do like the darker wall tiles. I think you have enough lightness (vanity doors, basin, bath, chrome taps and screen and light painted walls and ceiling) to be able to do both walls of shower dark. Where else are the white tiles going... do you have a splashback for vanity? and is the bath hob white or charcoal? bath splashback? What I'd pick would depend on the tiles for these things too. buzz Re: Do you think I will achieve a 'rich' look 7Jun 07, 2009 10:02 pm Someone else must be able to help with suggestions here. I'm a total novice.... love to lend a hand, but don't want to stuff up your thinking. These are all just my opinions, based on zilch design expertise. Do love those colours you have tho! buzz Re: Do you think I will achieve a 'rich' look 8Jun 07, 2009 10:08 pm Love your selections of colour. For the kitchen benchtops... how would either these look with your design? IMO I'd pay the upgrade to get the skirtings and architraves painted white and choose a slightly stronger wall colour. I love the idea of a feature wall for the shower in the dark tiles, are you also going to use them on the bath hob? Or something else? One thing though, your wall tiles will not line up with the floor tiles (DH and I are OCD ). Can't wait to see pictures as it all comes together! So if the tiler has half a brain they should line up. If they don't line up it will bug me for the next 20 years thats for sure. Yes the 'feature' tiles will go around the bath hob and the wall behind the bath. Howie - I love the Essa Stone Basmati - but there is no way we can afford it. Hmmmm now I am thinking that I should get the wall paint full strength not half strength ......... I wonder if you can do 3/4 strength Re: Do you think I will achieve a 'rich' look 11Jun 08, 2009 1:52 pm To be honest, you wont be able to fully achieve that 'rich' look your after, without paying for the 'rich' stuff. Youll get what you pay for, and as you might get close to that look, things like your replica-marble laminate benchtop will look really fake and 'wannabe'. No offense, but if you want to achieve the look, youll have to pay for it. Simple as that, but you may be close to it! Built the Atlantique 37 Mk2 with Carlisle Homes - WE'RE IN!! What I really think is that the 'rich' decor can only be achieved if the quality finishes and fittings are included. Things like paint colour etc definitely contribute to that 'rich' feel, but something like the laminate benchtop netadelle is thinking of, ruins the look and is too much of an imitation of marble. I do like the colour selections, but its not extravagant and 'expensive', sorry to say, to be classed as a 'rich' look. But who am I to say that you cant have the look? Go for it, I say! The bathrooms by comparisson in the more upmarket houses have HUGE tiles that are rectified (thereby having very little grout lines) and super glossy, with one whole wall of a different tile, that is what I was trying to come up with, something that would emulate that. I figured I can't change the bathroom tiles easily after handover, but I can change the kitchen benchtop relatively easily if ever we should win lotto It can be my 15 year plan, to save up for a "real" stone/marble kitchen benchtop No. It's not original.
