Austral Feds on outside 3036 blocks, 220 snaps, 264 halves,132 sills, 88 solid cored for under doors. remember if u want to run 1/2 bond as u can see in mine, u have to get a brickie who will be prepared to cut blocks or u buy (waste) a lot of snaps. 1/3 bond is easier but IMO looks crappy. sorry to those who have 1/3 bond... cheers tony Re: Roughly How Many Bricks to Build a house ? 6Jun 04, 2009 10:46 pm Isn't this one of those "how long is a piece of string?" questions? The reason I say this is because (stating the bleeping obvious!!) all houses are different. You want an average? Ours will be 2-storey, approx 40sqs and approx 13-14 thousand bricks. It works out at 48.5 bricks per square meter. Easiest way is to work out the total m2 of your external walls and then subtract your openings (windows, doors, etc) add a couple of extra hundred for wastage. Re: Roughly How Many Bricks to Build a house ? 9Jun 05, 2009 12:39 pm There used to be a website that would approx calculate it for you. Saw it when we were negotiating brick choices. Must have been on either the Austral or Boral or PGH websites - they were the only ones we looked at. Here it is..... http://www.boral.com.au/brick_calculato ... ckinsights Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Roughly How Many Bricks to Build a house ? 11Jun 05, 2009 1:45 pm I would have thought at least a million? Our house thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18335 Re: Roughly How Many Bricks to Build a house ? 12Jun 05, 2009 2:02 pm Desmondp, My house is just under 160sqm, 2700mm ceilings, with roughly 46 metres of brick wall. It's about 5500 (brick veneer). If you really want to be technical: Length of brick wall (m) x ceiling height (m) / 0.25 / 0.086 + a bit for wastage - a bit for windows In my case, 46 x 2.7 / 0.25 / 0.086 = 5776. 0.25m = 240 brick length + 10mm for mortar. 0.086m = 76 brick thickness + 10mm for mortar. I'm also using Austral. Chris Re: Roughly How Many Bricks to Build a house ? 13Jun 05, 2009 2:05 pm our bricks were 210m2 living plus 5 pillars = 8300ish bricks they will allow for atleast a 5% wastage too i think. we used selkirk bricks and all local brikkies said they were bad so to allow 10%... we had hardly any brocken or chipped bricks at all! Re: Roughly How Many Bricks to Build a house ? 14Jun 05, 2009 7:39 pm I used blue onyx and they were $1200 per thou, I did get them at builders rate but I doubt the builder will pass on that rate. At the $1200 price I would say it would be up there in regards to category.
