Re: How much for an instantaneous gas hot water unit? 7May 19, 2009 9:27 am noidea It depends on wot brand. For rinnai 32 infinity builder price is $1589.82 & rinnai 26 is $1232.76. That is Builder price. So for trades price might be higher. For us to buy in shop it will be even higher...LOL Thanks for that. I'll try and see if my plumber can get them cheaper. Not much different. Perhaps ask your plumber to get it for you since they can get trade price. Or you can just walk in to any plumbing wholesaler to ask for trade price. Most willing to give you because economy no good now If your house 2 storey then you might want to consider 2 x. I haveing 1 x rinnai 32 for the ground floor and another rinnai 32 for the 1st floor. Re: How much for an instantaneous gas hot water unit? 11May 19, 2009 12:41 pm Oh no is there any other way to avoid getting one for each floor? But still have decent pressure? Re: How much for an instantaneous gas hot water unit? 12May 19, 2009 12:59 pm Hi GettingThere, We have a one storey house, but still decided to go for two hot water systems. Usually with big homes no matter where you put the HWS unit, there will be at least one area in the house where there will be no hot water, unless you don't mind waiting. In our old house, the kitchen never had any hot water , because by the time the water riched the kitchen, the dishes were done. I think this is something to consider. As far as prices go, try to shop around. The prices I got for the models mentioned above were less than what Noidea got. Good luck PS remember that with the instant units, they need power to start up. so if you have no electricity, there will be no hot-water "The fearless are merely fearless. People who act in spite of their fear are truly brave" - James A. LaFond-Lewis Re: How much for an instantaneous gas hot water unit? 13May 19, 2009 1:25 pm Instantaneous Gas Hot Water Systems are not the best option. They are 'big' in Japan because they are small in size. And space is a premium there. Rinnai have marketed Instantaneous systems in Australia wonderfully.... even making them 'sexy' with temperature touch controllers. They have made HWS a high involvement purchase where HWS was once very low involvement. In response, Rheem (a Japenese owned company) introduced their versions and others too jave followed. However, these systems have big draw backs. They are OK for small homes (great for flats) where space is tight. They are relatively expensive. They don't cope well with high water demands (they will limit the water flow in order to heat the extra volume). There are better systems for local conditions. A mains pressure gas storage hot water system is much better (lower purchase cost too) and a solar bosted gas storage hot water system is even better. With RECS and rebates.... not that costly. I would not install an Instantaneous Gas HWS in my house. Had the builder included it, I would have even paid to have it changed. However, having said all that..... the decision on what HWS to select is not always a rational one. Ideally we would like a solar boosted gas hot water system, but since it's a brand new house, we don't qualify for the rebate Would a gas storage system be efficient for us, considering that there is only two of us? I guess it would depend on the capacity of the tank... but we hope to have kids in the future in which case we would need a larger tank or whatever the storage unit is called. Re: How much for an instantaneous gas hot water unit? 15May 21, 2009 8:16 pm rubber_noggin Instantaneous Gas Hot Water Systems are not the best option. Very interesting. I was going to go this option due to space constraints and the townhouse only being small (~18sq inc single garage). I figured that as the ensuite, laundry and kitchen were close to the unit it would be ok. Being a new house, I could do the Solar boosted system but since I want a water tank for the garden, the space would be better used for that with the Instantaneous system on the wall. Plus the upper floor is set within the ground floor so having the storage system at ground level and running the plumbing up to the roof would be a bit complicated? Having said that I could squeeze a storage unit next to the water tank if it really is the best way to go? The comment about no power, is that only if the pilot light is out or every time the unit goes to heat water? Re: How much for an instantaneous gas hot water unit? 17May 23, 2009 12:45 pm borg i bought a rinnai 26 infinity with two controllers for under $1000. Those prices are just harry fairy prices.
