Browse Forums Kitchen Splashbacks Re: Splashback Help Needed 5May 04, 2009 10:49 pm ok ladies are we talking about rows going vertical or horizontal, I am confused about which ones you like. For me, I like the last one in the 2nd horizontal row. Also the 1st one in that row is nice too. photogirl, what is your cupboard colour? I like the idea of getting some samples together - either take a sample of your cupboard colour to the splashback place, or take a sample of the splashback to your kitchens, and take more photos for us "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. I'm looking at them vertically, so the darker colours, although I do like the ones you have mentioned. I'm so confused. My cupboards are Volterra Rigato, timber veneer from Laminex. The company website does say they will come out for a free consultation so as I am already paying for it I might try and get them out with some big samples if they have them. Failing that I do have a cupboard sample so could take that out to the showroom. Only thing is I think I have to make a decision quickly. I hate that, I've had to make a few quick decisions lately and I'm not good at them. The tiling was all done today, painting is complete (although I think the site supervisor is going to get them back for a few little items). I just need work to finish in the kitchen so I can take that big sheet off and get some pics of the benchtop. I was a bit nervous about the tiles but feeling better now they have been grouted. I've gone off topic haven't I. So will ring supplier tomorrow and find out best way to see bigger samples in the flesh. Then will borrow DH work camera and take more photos of splashbacks and of house now tiling and most of the painting has been done. Electrician is coming tomorrow so lights should also be in, so something else to photograph. Thanks for your help ladies, I'll hopefully have some bigger samples and pictures tomorrow to show of splashbacks. That might make it a bit easier to choose. I'll be back. I went to the showroom today and picked up some samples, so going out this afternoon to photograph them at the house. Will put them up a bit later and get your opinions. I've picked a dark, two medium and one light so surely something should work. Re: Splashback Help Needed 11May 05, 2009 2:23 pm bummer look forward to the pics pg. Re: Splashback Help Needed 12May 05, 2009 9:48 pm Well I'm back after a bit of a running around day. I picked up 4 samples. Didn't get to photograph them until late afternoon so the colours are not 100% but close enough. There's too many trades at the house during the day to do it then. But that's a good thing really. Plus it's really dusty so look past the plaster dust, it get's on everything (as you know). So DH likes the dusk, so do I but worried it's too dark. I really like the salt but it is really too light I think. So leaning towards stone or coffee cream, although DH really thinks dusk. He said he read on Homeone that you should go for darker splashbacks. I rang the head office and got the reps details so I rang him today and still waiting on a call back. Apparently they have over 100 colours to choose from and the reps carry much larger samples so I am still going to try and get the rep out to the house to help me with this. The showroom I went to today was really not a lot of help apart from handing out samples (for a deposit of $10 each). The benchtop is not coming up the right colour, it's looking a little pink here but it's C/S ivory if that helps. I do like these colours though and would probably be very happy with one of them. Do you (or the other ladies on this thread) think that splashback colours look darker when they are in a large piece on the wall than in a little sample. It's just that I think if that's the case then stone would be great and dusk might be just too dark. How bad is this though. At one point I was contemplating Salt because I was thinking if I ever wanted to change my kitchen cupboard colour then that would go with more colours than the brown tones. I haven't even moved into this house yet and already thinking about possible changes. Is that what happens when you build, you keep wanting something different. Re: Splashback Help Needed 15May 05, 2009 10:47 pm Are they all resting on the benchtop? It's C/S Ivory? I like Stone too. Salt looks too yellow or something I don't think you should *always* go for darker splashback colour (I didn't ). Especially as you already have dark cupboards. Are you getting starphire glass? Re: Splashback Help Needed 16May 05, 2009 11:05 pm Hi Donuts They are all on the benchtop which is Caesarstone Ivory. I am leaning towards the Stone because I think you are right, the cupboards are very dark and I think I may take away too much from them if I go too dark. It also might clash. Dark splashbacks probably work better with lighter cupboards. I am also a bit worried that Dusk might have a touch of purple in it and I don't think that would work. I also have to keep in mind that even though we have light tiles in the kitchen we are having merbau floorboards so that is going to add another dark colour to the mix. I think I was just feeling that the kitchen needed a little something more, but I think it's because the cupboards on the wall are looking a bit barren. The rangehood went in today so that has added something else to the wall and I think once the other appliances go in (and also the fridge in a few weeks) it will look more like a kitchen than just a bunch of cupboards and a benchtop. Saying that, if I can ever get hold of the rep he may have another colour that may also be "the one", but if not, I think I am going with Stone. I think it's now my safe fall back colour. Re: Splashback Help Needed 17May 05, 2009 11:24 pm hmmm yes I can see what you mean about maybe needing something bold, but your cupboards do make a very big statement on their own and like you say once it gets more kitchen stuff in it it will start to look more colourful and ... kitchen-like! Shame you seem to be limited to these splashback colours, whatever happened to being able to paint the splashback any colour of paint under the sun like most others seem to but you are right Stone IS a great colour and I think you can stop worrying "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Currently scaping the land. Re: Splashback Help Needed 18May 06, 2009 8:27 am Spoke to the rep this morning and apparently I can have any colour under the Sun, well from the Dulux range. But I need to make that decision today. I just really give up. That information would have been great two days ago. Dulux has a colour called self destruct, I think that would be appropriate right now. Maybe that's the approach I should take, like the horses, pick it based on the name. Re: Splashback Help Needed 19May 06, 2009 8:29 am Self destruct is a nice colour - i think it is Jo's default render We chose Dulux White Duck for our splashback colour - pics in my thread. It is a really nice colour, it reminds me a bit of the stone you had a pic of. My karma ran over your dogma Re: Splashback Help Needed 20May 06, 2009 10:40 am They do end up darker in a big piece photogirl, if I had known this I may have chosen something a little lighter myself I like the stone very much, it's no that safe that it's boring and it's a nice welcoming colour, I don't think you need to go too dark with your cupboards Hi All, I engaged a tradie to install concrete retaining wall 600-800mm high over 32 meters in Victoria.
