Ever heard of them? 1st consultation is free... as part of our eletrical appointment. VJ, If you have no choice but to use "M's" service at least we will help you keep them honest as far as price goes. It may be better not to upset them too much. We also offer free quote and design services and we offer it on weekends and after hours too. I wonder if BPP or Lifestyle offer that?? VJ We are really keen to have a third party do it... this is due to the lesser cost involved. Since you're also in the same industry, probably you should also give us a quote if you can service Point Cook area. The pictures in the other thread were of a project in Hoppers Crossing. http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=3050 We don't limit ourselves to any area. We are happy to quote on anything you want. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ VJ We were 1st thinking of using LCD or plasma for the screen, but BPP suggested that it would achieve the same result (or even better at a lesser cost) if we use a projector. We were given a demo in a room which is same size as our HT room and it was amazing. They said they only use good brands, not cheap ones. It was a Yamaha package for a cost of $6k. Cheers! BPP lose a lot of business (we find) through the sales process. People like to buy things that are good value for money. A client recently walked away because they bagged Benq as a product. This client had had 2 Benq projectors previously and had loved them both. He wanted to compare the other options but left very dissapointed. I'll let you guess who got his $10000. As far as packages go we also have lots to offer. We'd be happy to talk if thats what you want. Matt I have reverted to username - mattwalker Carlisle Homes - Grande 43 My building experience is here: http://www.ourgrandeplan.blogspot.com Re: Home theatre.. 12Sep 10, 2007 10:40 pm We are scheduled to do our electricals very soon.
After that, i'll let you know of what happened and our decision on whether to go with them or not. Our concern though if we do it outside is the pre-wiring. It's really good that we came to discover this forum. We're learning a lot through other people's experiences and expertise! By the way, don't you know that we always check your blog! We also considered your builder but we already put a deposit with our builder. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Home theatre.. 13Sep 11, 2007 7:50 am I would say that the big M will NOT let any one else do it. I tried to run some speaker and CAT 5 cabling myself, I was only allowed to put in holes through the noggins and string to pull the cabling through. And even then the sparkie came in after me and cut 2 of my cords. Luckily someone left the back door open before the plaster went up. Adrian B Re: Home theatre.. 14Sep 11, 2007 8:03 am Hi VJ.
Firstly - we totally agree with the notion that a projected image on a genuine big screen is the only way to get the real 'home cinema' experience, and in our opinion nothing beats it. How much you want/need to spend really depends on a couple of things: 1. Do you want to go Full HD 1080P? The $6K package you have been offered clearly includes a 720P projector (at best), as the cheapest genuine 1080P projector costs nearly $5K on it's own (and the nice ones all tend to cost over $5,500). That said, a 1080P DLP projector doing Hi-Def TV (say, the AFL Grand Final) is truly mind blowing! 2. What size screen you really want. A lot of shops will simply offer a standard size screen like 100" as it is the most common size and a lot of the cheaper screen makers tend to just make 2 sizes - 84" and 100". The cheaper imported screen does help keep the price of the package down (and I mean that in a good way too). If you want to go over this size, and get a little more specific in that sizing (the screen pictured in our posts from the last couple of days is 115") then you need to spend a little more. 3. Is the $6K package price inclusive of installation, calibration, training, and even after-sales support? (our pricing is). We also only use quality brands - Marantz, Jamo, Mordaunt-Short, Paradigm, BenQ, Samsung, to name a few. If you're making a significant investment in this type of equipment you want to be able to know (and feel) that what you get is real quality and will continue to perform at an excellent level for years and years. Re: Home theatre.. 15Sep 11, 2007 8:10 am Whoever ends up installing your cabling you better make sure they know:
- Exactly what equipment you have and plan to have - ALL of the cabling required to do everything you need (speakers, subwoofer, video, antenna, computer, Infrared) - Exactly where everything is going to go (front speakers, surround speakers (2 or 4), subwoofer, projector, AV gear, other speakers (outdoor)) If any of this is not thought of and missed it can lead to some real disappointment later. Re: Home theatre.. 16Sep 11, 2007 9:39 pm Adrian, based on your experience with M, I don't think we should be asking our electrical consultant anymore whether they would allow us do it with another party.
Rod, thanks for the advice. My husband and I are not knowledgeable with the HT systems and we will rely on people like you for some advice. The $6k quote given to us by BPP is inclusive of all the things that you mentioned, including installation and support. You didn't mention about Yamaha as one of the good brands.. that was the brand that they offered us. We haven't really discussed about the size of the screen, no. of speakers, etc. We might have to discuss it within this week in order to prepare for our electrical appointment. We'll ask for their quote and let you know about it. If you could suggest a better (and cheaper, of course!) option, we might meet up with you and Matt. Thanks again! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Home theatre.. 17Sep 15, 2007 7:58 am Yamaha is good too.
As far as top quality, feature packed A/V Receivers and related A/V gear (DVD players, etc.) goes, the big 4 used to be Marantz, Denon, Yamaha and Onkyo - a few years ago that is. Very little has changed these days, however, in my opinion (and that of quite a few other people I have spoken to about this), Onkyo would no longer be held in as high a regard as the other 3 - they have had some real issues with their after sales support and don't seem to have the profile of the other 3. More likely the next consideration for this vacated spot at the top would go to Pioneer who also make some pretty good A/V gear. Personally, I've liked the Marantz stuff for many, many years, and have been in love with it for the last 4 or 5. They do seem to be very highly regarded by the industry press, having won many awards in various categories against the other guys in the big 4 as well as other brands. Re: Home theatre.. 18Sep 15, 2007 11:30 pm Thanks for that Rod!
At least we know now that Yamaha is one of the top 4 best brands. By the way, do you think it's possible (and is it advisable) that our builder does the pre-wiring and we do the other stuff later on? That would mean that we have to get consultation re: pre-wiring at this stage with a 3rd party and relay it to our builder's consultant. Once we move in to the house, the 3rd party home theatre expert will then install the system. Do you think the builder will get upset by the idea? We're just thinking that we can still do the HT later on and we need to prioritise other things like driveway, curtains and front landscaping after hand over. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Hi Rod, As $5K for a projector is really beyond my budget, like to know what's the next level below Full HD 1080P? I have seen things been advertised like SVGA, XGA, ...etc, but not very clear about the resolution for each of them. Rodda 2. What size screen you really want. Re: Home theatre.. 20Sep 16, 2007 9:10 am VJ That would mean that we have to get consultation re: pre-wiring at this stage with a 3rd party and relay it to our builder's consultant. Once we move in to the house, the 3rd party home theatre expert will then install the system. Do you think the builder will get upset by the idea? Hi VJ, We are planning to do exactly the same as yours: let the builder's electrician to do the pre-wiring, and then wait under most of the expensiv stuffs done (drive way, landscaping, plasma TV, ...etc), then install the home theatre. You also have to decide how many speakers you are installing and the location of all components first. We are thinking of pre-wiring 7.1 speaker set and also get a projector stand installed on the ceiling first. Ours will be at least another few months away as we are just in early frame stage. Would be interested to see how much your builder's electrician quoted you. We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds.
