As the rears and surround make up part of your 5.1 I don't know whether this is really an ideal way to do it. Proper distributed audio A/V receivers generally have multi zone capability. Similar to what Matt has mentioned with the Elan system albeit as different price points. Nathan Thanks Nathan! But on Sonos system, does it work with something like "switch box"?....I just saw it in **** Smith and I guess it is something for 1 input and 4 outputs.... Can I use switch box between amp and zp90?... Metricon Amira Re: Speakers connection on Sonos System 27Apr 03, 2009 2:34 pm Rodda Kikin. If you use an AV Receiver to try to run 4 speakers as 2 stereo pairs the only way that will work is if the Receiver can do "mulit-channel stereo", thus sending the stereo sound to all 5 speakers (and the bass to the sub). If when it does this it sends the left audio signal to the Front Left speaker and the surround Surround Left speaker, and the right audio signal to the Front Right speaker and the Surround Right speaker, (and send whatever - probably both - to the centre), then in theory what you're asking will work. Thanks Rod! If I go with Sonos system, which amp will you recommend me to use with Sonos? Thanks. Metricon Amira Re: Speakers connection on Sonos System 28Apr 03, 2009 3:05 pm Kikin, you should contact Rod directly and arrange a meeting with him. I’m sure he’ll be able to come up with a great solution for you, and probably be able to supply and install all your wiring plus equipment at good rates. It may just surprise you how much you can save, plus the bonus of piece of mind, not only working out your requirements, but also ensuring it all works. Can I use switch box between amp and zp90?... You can get a switch but buying a cheap one is a waste of money. To multizone properly with a switchbox you will need to make sure it has 'impedance matching' ... anything less than this could result in blown speakers or worse still a blown amp! Re: Speakers connection on Sonos System 30Apr 06, 2009 9:19 pm Hi pro, Would the Sonos system be better in wired connection rather than wireless one? If the wired connection is better, what cable should it be used between zoneplayers? Is it CAT5 cable?... Is CAT5 cable same as RJ45? Is it the one we use between computer and the router? Sorry for having such silly questions....but I do want to clarify it.... Thanks for your help!!! Metricon Amira Re: Speakers connection on Sonos System 31Apr 06, 2009 10:02 pm Kikin, Many would say wired. Wireless however is getting much better speed wise. Wired is more secure, overall faster and preferred due to interference free and reliability. If you go wired, its best if the house is wired (excuse the pun) for it during the build. Wireless gives freedom, is cool less cables obviously. Allows you to setup without having a structured wiring setup during build. Cat5 cable uses RJ45 connectors. It is in most cases the cable that many of us use to connect our PC's to the modem/router. is Cat5. I myself am having our placed wired for networking. I like the Sonos systems and i would prefer it wired than wireless. Should I just climb to the roof and drop the cable to the ground? Metricon Amira Re: Speakers connection on Sonos System 34Apr 06, 2009 10:25 pm Kikin, Think of Cat6 as a higher performance version of cat5e. Many will state that its worth just installing cat5e as you can still reach gigabit data transfers across this cable. Cat6 is a higher bandwidth again. It runs at 200mhz vs 100 for the Cat5e. As for the install, laws these days as far as inwall installs goes need to be finished off by licenced cablers. How many data points were you thinking of?
