Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design Re: Whole House Lighting Purchases 10Mar 29, 2009 8:48 pm We chose lights a diverse set of light from a number of manufacturers totalling around 4K. Most retailers don't stock them all. We got 90% of our lights from one place and the rest from another. We almost went with an online company. Our local retailer ended up matching but not beating the price. In the end we though we might as well support local business and I guess you can form a relationship with them. However, when we went back to get another fan light they didn't offer us the same price (even though they promised to over the phone). They mumbled something about it being impossible to price match five months and some 'mistake' with the original quote. So my feeling is a bit mixed particularly about the whole experience. I suspect you can't beat online prices by much though. I am sure it costs a fortune in energy bills to run a lighting outlet. We got our builder to use his 2nd fix electrician to install but that was more for convenience sake. It probably would be cheaper to use your own contractors.
