The first picture is the design from builder's consulting structural engineer who is very hard to reach and never answered our queries.
Can any experts here provide some ideas on below questions?
The following pictures are the driveway (pink edge requires barrier) on approved plan, relevant DA consent and also AS2890.1 Section2453
1.Height- Builder suggests to add handrail on top of barrier to reach 1.3m
- Does the driveway account as "the end of a parking space" so the handrail has to be added on barrier to reach 1.3m in total? I never see handrail on elevated driveway in the suburb, most ppl have short wall or only Kerbed edge. Like the last example below. We don't want the handrail if it's unnecessary.
- If we don't need to add the handrail, how height is the concrete barrier over driveway level to satisfy Section 2.4.5.3 of AS 2890? The designed barrier is 150mm.
2.Barrier rail/structure material
Does the designed barrier is easy to build with concreter?
We thought to have reinforced concrete masonry wall (if possible) but the designed barrier seems only made of fabric, concrete and handrail.
3.If we have to have 150mm barrier with handrail on top to reach 1.3m in total, is there any loading requirement for the handrail according to AS/NZS 1170.1? Or any stairs or balcony balustrade is acceptable since it's for signing purpose only?
Any advice would be appreciated!
If any structural engineer has better idea, please feel free to contact me.
