Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Dechellis homes 14Sep 03, 2023 12:51 am cplus Interested to know how you went? Seems to be some shocking stories with Dechellis, but all from a few years ago - quite a few in 2020 during COVID (that would have sucked to build at that time). maybe a change since then? More recent stories much better, but all seem to be pre build. Can't comment on a build, but I've had several discussions with them and have found them to be extremely cooperative and helpful in trying to come up with a design that works. They are on the pricier end, but if you've seen their displays as I'm sure you have, you know their builds do stand a cut above. The problem is there are shocking stories around for every single builder if you look for them, more so in the last couple of years with COVID, price increases, delays etc. Re: Building with Dechellis homes 15Sep 03, 2023 10:33 am Volume builders aren't going to magically change their practices and become good. I still know people signing up with Metricon. I still know people signing up with Metricon. Bizarre I've yet to come across a single builder who you can't find a terrifying review of. Except some small bespoke/custom ones, but then you often can't find much at all on those, or not enough to come to an assured decision about them. The volume builders are naturally going to have a higher % of bad feedback. For anyone looking to build a new home, it's a pretty scary process when you start researching. And naturally, as with everything else, more people go online to complain about things than they do to celebrate their wonderful experiences. I also think that while every builder has their own way of handling situations that arise (which can obviously make ALL the difference when things go wrong), you are ultimately at the mercy of the tradies working on your home - if they are on the ball and do a great job, you avoid the vast majority of headaches. It's Russian roulette with a volume builder and your chances of things going wrong are much higher given their business models are built on doing everything as cheap as possible. It's also Russian roulette with custom builders, except you've got more scope as the client to do your diligence and figure out of they have systemic issues or good business practices Re: Building with Dechellis homes 19Sep 03, 2023 1:04 pm cplus Agree with above. And any builder is only as good as their trades. I’m trying to find a happy medium. Quoted $4000sqm from a custom builder. I have been looking at two-storey and Dechellis quoted me $2000-2100sqm. Re: Building with Dechellis homes 20Sep 03, 2023 4:35 pm olly80 I have been looking at two-storey and Dechellis quoted me $2000-2100sqm. Sounds about right. And at that amount will be a very nice home. Granted the $4000 quote included higher ceilings, double glazing everywhere etc etc. but just not needed. I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending. All their existing trades and businesses don't work with… 14 109707 Hi there! Putting the feelers out there for those who have (or almost) built with Arli homes! Interested in your experiences who've built from their stock home designs… 0 26677 Wish you all the best.
