We have just purchased a property on a gentle sloping block.
It’s 16m wide at the roadside entrance by 46m deep.
The 30m deep large rear garden is terraced approx halfway to created 2 levels.
My immediate plan is to built a 60sqm 2 bedroom granny flat at the very rear of the garden for my wife’s parents who currently rent.
Longer term would be to put a pool across the garden and then rebuild the house rather then try to make it what we want. This is long term I stress.
My question is levels. How do I know what level to build the granny flat given we don’t have any idea what style main house we will end up with.
My plan was to build the granny flat and then move the terrace up the garden closer to the granny flat, to leave a nice flat area at the back of the existing house.

They will need to look at the planning regulations in your local area in terms of setbacks, building foot print and how high each dwelling can be above the natural ground level. You dont need them to design the actual interior lay out of the house but simply do some block planning which shows you both in plan form and in section view how both the granny flat and the house can be situated on your site.
