Re: DA refused -Masterton homes 7Mar 27, 2022 5:07 pm ![]() Hi Emma, We are going through the same thing now. Our DA was also refused due to insufficient storm water plans, after a lot of back and forth with council. Council had told our builder the plans looked great and to expect approval, then bam, we got hit with a refusal. We will be requesting a Review of Determination. I am not sure how long the process takes as each council is different. Jump on your councils website and have a look through their DA process, you should be able to find some answers. In regards to your builder, I would be calling and emailing to get some answers. They will need to amend the plans to have them include all the details asked for in your Refusal of Consent letter if you stand a chance to have any approval. I am lucky as our builder has been amazing every step of the way in helping us get through this, but communication is key in times like this. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome for the both of us! Thank you for your reply. How did your review of determination go? Its been a month since our DA refusal and our builder has been hopeless, it took them a month to redraft the plans, and they had only just emailed the preliminary plans to council for feedback. They want to see if council are happy with it before submitting a review of determination. I am quite nervous about how long this whole thing will take as council are very slow. Not sure how long the review even takes... Re: DA refused -Masterton homes 8Mar 27, 2022 5:09 pm ![]() ![]() Hello, We are building with Masterton and submitted DA in May 2021. After 4 submissions of insufficient information to council, council have refused our application. Has anyone experienced this and how long does it take now to lodge a review of this? Also would we be able to now lodge an application under CDC? We initially chose DA as we could have a front setback of 5.5m under DA (vs 10m with CDC) Any help much appreciated, as we have heard nothing from Masterton! Emma Sadly, I know the feeling. It's been almost two years since we settled on our land. DA took almost 18mths of back and forth between Council and the builder (via the Town Planners they appointed because they hadn't worked with our council before) for all sorts of things that really they should have known about right at the beginning (my yard stick is if I could be aware of it after a quick Google search then they, as professionals, should be on top of it). I'm so annoyed with them over it. Then, about a week from finishing the process (only thing left was to submit updated plans showing some window changes), the builder pulls the plug because the job is no longer profitable. Good luck and I hope you sort it out! Goodness me! I'm so sorry that happened to you also. What did you end up doing with the land? We are at a loss as to what to do now, as Masterton staff are highly inexperienced we've noticed. Even when our case was raised to senior management, its been hopeless - quite shocked at how they have managed to build so many homes with this level of competence. My builder had submitted all the updated plans about a week or 2 after the refusal, and we have been waiting to hear back from council. Apparently all councils are dealing with back logs so the wait time is painful.
