Our home is 6 months old and our flooring is a engineered timber (ply underneath and 2 mm French oak on top).
It looks amazing but seems to be quite soft and easy to chip the top coloured layer (exposing the raw plywood colour underneath). For example I went to pick up some rubbish and my fingernails took a chip out very easily.
There are probably 7 or 8 chips (some a few cm long) already across the living and dining area.
Is this normal or do you think its worth complaining to builder about?
The brand is premiere oak by hurford flooring
Oaks are a bit softer than Australian timbers. I don't know the Hurtford range but 2mm is quite thin. I personally would have chosen a thicker wear layer.
Have a chat with your builder see how you go.
