Hi Alex, you could do it either way, but if you tile first you risk getting paint on your tiles which to me would be harder to clean then some tile dust on walls. Don't forget, in my method after tiling, you still have to put your final coat of paint on the walls and skirts, so essentially you are risking paint from only the final coat on the tiles, and you end up with brand new walls.
