Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jan 12, 2022 9:24 am Hi All, We recently bought a house and it has timber deck outdoors as per the photos. Since i have never owned a house before so i am not across timber maintenance. During the purchasing process i was told by the agent/owner to apply decking oil - they left Aqua deck in the garage when the timber starts to wear. However, after moving in i saw videos which said that a cleaning agent such as 'Deck Clean' needs to be applied first before the application of the decking oil. My question from experienced members is: 1. How do i know when the timber deck requires oiling? 2. Previously this deck was oiled using Aquadeck, what will be the process for re-oiling it? 3. Once i apply the decking oil, how long does it normally last for? Will really appreciate your feedback. Pressure washed it, then sprayed it (garden sprayer) with Intergrain Deck Prep, scrubbed that in with a stiff bristled scrubbing brush. Pressure washed it off. Next I sprayed it with Intergrain Timber Reviver, scrubbed, pressure washed. I then put 3 coats of Intergrain Ultradeck Can't offer a comparison between products, I chose Intergrain when I built them initially because it was available locally. Recoat with a maintenance coat before 12 months go by. As to when to prep & revive vs just maintenance coat; If the timber is weathered or discoloured If bare timber is visible anywhere If you can see the grain opening up (fine cracks) If there is bowing or cupping that has occurred recently Any of these is reason to go thru the whole process. Hope this helps Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 1 27433 Hi there, We are currently building a veranda off the side of an existing Olympic shed.
