Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation Re: Metricon Home Network Lite - any good ? 6Nov 17, 2021 4:01 pm its unlikley they will just run a central port somewhere for you outside of a basic package. Mesh is not always the best option either. If you game (or have kids that game) online, a wired connection is king. ANy serious gaming cant be done reliably on a mesh set up from my own experience. The other things to consider is resale - many people dont understand networking and all the ins and outs, so you may turn off some buyers who rather plug everything into a port. Whether or not the switch is outdated sort of doesn't overly mater. Its just a switch. you can replace if you actually somehow need more connectivity or features. I agree it is completely over priced, but show me one thing in your home that isn't, its a volume builder after all. Even though mesh is not a bad way to do things, weve had hardwired points put in every bedroom, multiples in the home office and TV areas, I've also whacked a bunch in one of the coat closets so that I can use it as storage for the rack and various home security stuff. The main thing is, Traffic on all the wired devices wont compete with the wifi bandwidth for all the wifi devices in the home. If you dont game/have kids who are heavy users and dont need to do a lot of copying of stuff across devices (video editing etc) mesh is fine. Having both options is better in the long run through. Dark matter scientist, can breathe underwater, mind reader and can freeze matter just by willing it. Trust me, its in my sig. Re: Metricon Home Network Lite - any good ? 7Nov 17, 2021 6:09 pm I tend to agree with with Noname here, whilst you can run everything off wireless some times such as a tv, fridge etc don’t move and having a data point reduces wifi interference and improves connectivity and performance. Not sure I would add them to bedrooms anymore but definitely to a study if you have one Re: Metricon Home Network Lite - any good ? 8Nov 24, 2021 7:54 pm KK2090 Hi All, I am new to this forum and we are in the process of finalizing the selections at studio M. During the electric appointment, they offered home network lite package for $1345 including 3 data points, 1 phone point and 2 tv points. My question is if it is really worth taking this home network lite package? Can’t we just only include one data point and run Google mesh network for the entire house ? I don’t know if Metricon offers only one data point to a central location in the house? My contract includes zero data point, one phone point and 3 tv points (first time building the house and didn’t pay much attention to such details)! Will really appreciate any feedback Thanks At the time we build they were between $60-$100 for a data point. So the package doesn't seem that good if you break down the cost. We had data point provisioned around the exterior of the house for CCTV and around interior for wifi access points and data point to get a higher transfer speed. We prefer fixed lan cables where possible. Mesh network are getting better and better but wasn't as good when we built. Re: Metricon Home Network Lite - any good ? 9Dec 06, 2021 8:40 pm Being the first time building a house this a a very valuable feedback from you all, thanks alot. I have asked Metricon to provide more information if they can just provide one data point (which I think they will say NO to, but lets see). Thank you all once again.
