Re: Squeaking floor 4Nov 08, 2021 6:45 am kikiK Ashington Homes kikiK recently got new house handover, and there is bad noise from squeaking second floor. Carpenters coming over twice, not fixed the problem but damaged the electrical cable for downstairs...builder kept saying its due to the weather. anyone had similar situation and any advise? kikiK Assuming you have a yellowtongue or similar style particle board floor, the reason that it is squeaking is that the builders have not used enough glue and screws ( if any). We see it a lot with project home builds where to save time the installers will simply nail the flooring to the joists, where the proper method is to put a ton of glue on the joists, lay the boards and then screw them down so that they never ever move or squeak. The squeaking you can hear is them moving up and down on the nails. Possible solution, given pulling it all up and relaying with glue is near impossible at this stage, would be to use a heap of 75mm bugles and screw them tight to the joists. Hope this helps a little cheers Simeon Hi Simeon, thanks for your reply; they have sent carpenters coming over and tried to fix it twice, instead of fixing it but nailed on light cable downstairs (there are 2 holes in downstairs ceiling to fix the damage ); and sadly the noise is still there and getting worse; it even makes noise every time i stepped on master room bathroom. we are trying to hold off furniture delivery until this will be fixed, but they blamed on the weather and claimed that furniture may add weight and settle it; also we should wait for another 1 year to go through all seasons to call they back. I am just wondering if this is normal? and is it expensive to fix? I am losing the confidence and not sure if there is anything I can do with this situation. Best Regards, Kiki Kiki if you have a spare 5 mins call me today and I'll talk you through it. Basically, its common but not normal and shouldnt be like that. If the floor coverings arent down there is a simple fix. Anyway call me on 0431712792 and we can talk through your options Cheers Simeon Architectural Homes & Duplexes - specialising in custom designing homes to your budget Get a Free Onsite Consultation Today or send a PM for information, questions or advice. Hi kikiK You might want to check your contract to see if the builder has expressed that the floors will creak during these weather events. I suspect it doesn’t, despite not reading your contract, haha. Defects arise from breaches of standard guides and tolerances. It might arise under the contract --- breach of contract. It could be that the product is not fit for the purpose. You should consult with a building consultant or building expert who can investigate whether or not the work is defective.
