Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 12, 2021 6:54 pm Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice on who to build with in Perth. I narrowed it down to: Summit homes Home Group Aussie Living Homes I have heard good and bad things about them all. All of them have some sort of bad review on the product review site so it isn't helping my decision. Aussie living homes have been great, they listened, designed my home and are getting me the most house for my budget, alongside their standard inclusions I would do the bathroom upgrade and blinds and lights. My Consultant hasn't been pushy at all. Summit, they didn't listen much they were like here's one of our designs boom sign a contract because we have the best inclusions. Home Group I have felt most comfortable with they designed a home that I like however they haven't been able to give me what ALH can. I have to compromise either my living space or the master suite. ALH I am hearing some horror stories about due to BCG and getting builders. All the other sales consultants have said avoid them even if you don't pick us avoid them. Has anyone built with ALH who can give me some advice. Re: Who to build with? 2Sep 13, 2021 8:59 pm Hi there, I’m building at the moment with WA Country Builders/ Rural Building Company, so don’t have any experience with those three builders myself but have heard and seen things about all three. There is a FB group called $honky Builders WA and I can honestly say that 90% of the complaints in there at the moment are coming from people building with BCG. I personally wouldn’t go anywhere near them, but it’s a personal choice. Maybe see if you can join the group and type those builders names into the search bar, and see what pops up. There are three houses building next to mine 2 Summit and one Homegroup. The Homegroup house went up so incredibly fast and they seem to have had very few issues. The Summit homes houses were a bit delayed getting started, but the owners have said they are pretty happy with them. Trust your gut, combined with some good research. We are so happy we trusted our gut and went with the sales rep we clicked with, and felt was being the most genuine- and we’ve had a great build so far. Good luck! Re: Who to build with? 3Sep 15, 2021 12:02 am We are building with Summit. Almost at hand over. We’ve had heaps of issues along the way and if you do go with them prepare to spend months and months at Prestart with errors and false promises. The main issues were sales telling us we could do certain things at Prestart but then at Prestart the admin telling us Summit can’t supply. So after handover we have almost every trade coming back in to rip out completed work and installing what we originally wanted. There’s also still errors that are popping up even now. To top it off we were charged the increases but we signed up before the grants. If the admin had of been half decent at her job we wouldn’t have gotten stuck in the rush. Our site supervisor is great though, much more down to earth, easy to contact and has made it a fairly smooth process. I’m happy with the quality apart from a few minor things that I don’t doubt the supervisor will fix before handover. I personally wouldn’t build with a builder again, I’d hire an independent supervisor and owner build but Summit isn’t overly bad if you want a volume builder. Re: Who to build with? 4Sep 18, 2021 11:14 pm I’ve been lurking on here and in $honky WA fb group since we decided to build a house. This is the first time I am posting in here… We are currently building with New Choice Homes. We did research builders before choosing our builder. We found that there was little negative reviews regarding NCH’s build quality available online. We did, however, find negative comments regarding costings but we were happy to forgo a little more money if that meant a quality overall build… I can’t comment on build quality yet (our build is in the middle of bricks) however they have been good with their communication and there have been very minimal delays with our build even in the current building boom (casually engaged builder in Feb, contract signed end of Mar, pre-start in Apr, confirmed final selections by Jun, slab down Jul, bricks delivered Aug, brick works commenced Sep and estimated to finish next week pending the weather). If I had friends or family who are interested in building right now, I would definitely recommend NCH - but give fair warning to keep an eye on the costings with each variation or selection…. However, given all the post/threads/reviews regarding builders passing on increased costs to clients maybe NCH have been reasonable with their prices from the start. I understand you already have a few builders in mind, but incase you haven’t, please do look into NCH. Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 7 19849 A person needs to be licensed to offer financial advice.
