Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 22, 2021 5:50 pm Hi Guys, We are thinking to buy a fibreglass pool shell (and equipment like pump, filter, cleaning kit etc) from Swimming Pool Retailer. We are doing this because we are looking for a pool of length 3x7m (max) and max depth of 1.35m ( it can flat or like 0.95m to 1.35m as long as its not exceeding 1.35m) We are unable to find a single pool builder (fiberglass only) who has shell with such requirement. That's why we need to buy shell separately from specific retailer and have that installed by someone else (as the retailer don't do installation). This is also coming out to be cheaper option than someone who provides shell and install and does everything. My questions is - Who does the rest things like site planning & certification application services, project management, installation and related advice? Is this ok approach? Any recommendation in Sydney for this? Has anyone setup their pool in this way i.e shell from someone and install etc from other? TIA! Hi We are going through this exact issue with a client at the moment on the lower north shore. Whilst installing a fibreglass pool is a pretty simple process in theory, a number of things can go wrong and will the retailer still warrant the pool after installation or will they point the finger at the installer? Having spoken to a couple of the more well known fibreglass companies, they do get a surprising number of warranty claims from scratches, discolourations, cracks, and other issues. Not having one person to blame has convinced our client that whilst the seperate retailer and installer was slightly cheaper, for peace of mind going with a company that supplies and installs gave them more peace of mind. Anyway, assuming that this doesn't bother you, you will need a drafting company and a structural engineer. Drafting companies have certifiers they like working with. There isn’t much available as the market dictates deeper pools . As for buying pool and having installed sometimes it works great and sometimes it all goes to crap . Cheers The last home I lived in didn't have a pool and when i went to sell it the agents were not happy, even telling me to put one in to sell the place.
