So I’ve emailed asking for permission. Keen to hear everyone’s thoughts and if I should try to influence and how. It’s a fixed price contract as in their are no provisions or details of site costs, however I would be happy to pay more for additional slab treatment to prevent future damage. Hey cjacks Welcome to the forum Can't always tell from a builders rough mud map But I can say 1. Even if the builder gives you access to his engineer, whats to stop the builders engineer from over specifying and the builder ripping in to you with the price? 2.If you want to influence an engineer hire your own, make sure you get a BAL rating , wind loading, etc your up for more costs 3.The builder has just specified a standard stock waffle, that should be enough to set of the alarm bells 4.Never tell a builder/tradie " I would be happy to pay more for additional slab treatment to prevent future damage" they'll rip your wallet from your back pocket so quick your pants will drop.... Even good engineers only do what they get paid for ..the problem is the builder leaves a lot out by not paying Track down your own local engineer to assess your site with you, experienced engineers have builders ticket and access to trades/costs Cheers Chris Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Waffle pod with H class soil and multiple large trees 6Mar 11, 2021 9:35 am Thanks StructuralBIMGuy! I’ll try to find an engineer to do an independent review, and re-frame from saying I’m happy to pay extra haha Would you think an arborist would be beneficial given then amount of trees, their size and proximity? I’ll try to find an engineer to do an independent review, and re-frame from saying I’m happy to pay extra haha Would you think an arborist would be beneficial given then amount of trees, their size and proximity? An arborist doesn't have the required skill set to tell you how the buildings foundations may be affected. They do trees, not maths. An arborist may give you some anecdotal advice based on what they know about the trees. Dark matter scientist, can breathe underwater, mind reader and can freeze matter just by willing it. Trust me, its in my sig. Ask your engineer... lol, don't turn up with a Landscape Architect with a colour rendering of the finished project showing trees. I just sent you the details of my structural engineer who also happens to know a ton about trees. Most of Perth has class A (sandy soil), except for some areas near rivers or hills. 2 13107 I don’t think so as the floor area over 300 square meters then it is class 3…. 12 17943 |
