Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 08, 2021 1:54 pm Hi everyone, How many zones should I expect to have for a 43 square home? Would two zones be enough? Anything else I should be considering here? We have been quoted for a Brivis 3-phase Star Pro 5 series with one zone on the ground floor and the other on the first floor, I'm just conscious that the two zones may not be enough and we should consider adding another zone? Any advice would be helpful. TIA Re: Heating and Aircon zones 2Mar 09, 2021 8:19 am i'm no expert, however the number of zones I would suspect depends on how you live in the house and how efficient you want the system to be. Obviously the more zones you have increases the upfront cost, however allows you to customise usage to a greater extent which may reduce run costs down the track. as a comparison, our build is similar in size and i currently have 3 zones, with the option to extend to 5 zones in the future by installing 2 additional controllers. as the kids are young I figured we would control their temperature now, however possibly when they are older they may want to control it themselves and therefore expand the number of zones. Re: Heating and Aircon zones 3Mar 09, 2021 10:24 am 1. How many bedrooms are occupied at night? On a hot night you might only be wanting to cool the occupied bedrooms so say 2 zones for 4 bedrooms. 2. What rooms are unoccupied during the day? Why cool an unoccupied room? So say another zone for living areas and another one for home office/kitchen 3. 2 storey house so your upper floor will cop any heat rising from the ground floor so one zone for there does make some sense. Re: Heating and Aircon zones 4Mar 09, 2021 8:50 pm Our house is about 350m2 and we have 7 zones: Kitchen/dining/living Media Music Upstairs rumps Study Main bedroom Other bedrooms As everyone has said, it saves having to cool or heat unused areas, which can be a substantial saving. Plus if you just want to take the edge off the temperature, you can do clever things like run the further out zones, which draws the tempered air through the rest of the house, without having to directly heat or cool whole areas.
