Hi guys!
Looking for some feedback on these concept designs drawn up by an architect.
Hubby and I have gone on a nice trek through the knock-down-rebuild minefield. We began with project builder research and found ourselves drawn to 300m2 homes and were just hoping for better insulation than our current ice brick/oven, and some water harvesting/recycling.
But after some research, I started looking into sustainable house design and even went as far as visiting and enquiring about a passive house... But being green was out of our price range.
We've found an architect that stated they do solar passive design, work on efficient use of space and other sustainable features. But after we got our initial concept sketches, he started to discuss money saving options like gas heating and retro-fitting solar panels to reduce the Basix rating and save money during the building phase.
So now we're a bit stumped. We're based in Western Sydney, NW orientation, have a budget of $500k and have reduced our total house and garage size to about 260m2.
What are thoughts on our design in terms of solar passivity?
Thoughts on the architects stance on reducing Basix features?
What should we consider in terms of maximising our energy, water and thermal efficiency on our budget?
Cheers in advance!
