Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 28, 2020 1:57 pm I'm replacing my tiles in my kitchen, i live in a high rise apartment so i assumed the tiles were laid direction on concrete. but after removing 3 tiles i noticed that there is a rubber underlay beneath my tiles. i'm looking for advice for the 3 possible scenarios: Option 1 remove the tiles from the rubber underlay as best as i can, then re lay new tiles with new adhesive over existing rubber underlay. Option 2 completely remove tiles and rubber underlay, then re install new rubber underlay, then install the new tiles with new adhesive over new underlay. If i were to go down this path, where do i get the rubber underlay for tiles specifically? how do i lay the underlay, do i use a specific glue? Option 3 completely remove tiles and rubber underlay, then re lay new tiles with new adhesive on the concrete floor. any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. You will find the acoustic underlay is a requirement in multifloor developments. That leaves you with option 1&2. Obviously 1 will be the cheapest but that assumes you can get the tiles up without damaging the underlay which I can imagine being a challenge. Option 2 will be the most expensive but will probably give you the best job and may even be quicker in the long run. Most tilers should be able to organise the whole job for you.
