The stand alone exhaust fans these days are vented to outside (by law in Vic), and also have a valve to close off the vent when not used (to prevent heat loss mentioned above). It can't really be enclosed as it generates a lot of heat from the heat lamps. And they are available from Bunnings for only $173, so the amount back might only be a few hundred. But what will keep you warm in the winter mornings in the bathroom? It is also a good source of light for the ladies to do their makeup...
