Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 06, 2020 8:50 pm I am in the last few stages (fixing stage) of my house build in Melbourne, VIC and realised that due to having in-wall toilet seats in the toilet i won't be able to install a hand shower (bidet) later which is one of my primary requirement. I realise it was a complete oversight at my end. I have asked the builder of the possbiliity of adding a water point now so lets see. However, what is the possiblity of adding a water point afer the handover? how much it will roughly cost? I have floor to cieling tiles to make the things complicated Open to any other suggestions /workarounds as well.... Thanks Re: Adding a water point in toilet 2Aug 06, 2020 9:02 pm I'm not sure what the regulations are in Victoria but in Western Australia if you add a water point in a WC it needs to have a backflow prevention device fitted, off the top of my head if it is done during the build its roughly $1000. Its a pretty big job now and would suggest they won't want to touch it, if they did it would ne at least a couple of thousand but $5k I don't think would be out of the equation Re: Adding a water point in toilet 3Aug 06, 2020 11:37 pm do you have already water coming to the sink, then you can possibly hook into there. the issue with hand shower is that you can't just have cold water there, it needs to have both cold and water water supply and mix. Re: Adding a water point in toilet 4Aug 07, 2020 10:04 am I tried getting it done in my new build but it's considerably expensive to be done. Firstly, if your estate is one of the newer developments in all likelihood it would have recycled water for the toilet in which case you will need to pull a new fresh water connection for the bidet. It would also need a backflow prevention and additional waterproofing. My builder advised me against it as the additional cost wasn't worth it. You should also avoid any DIY bidets. Re: Adding a water point in toilet 6Aug 07, 2020 12:05 pm Sorry guys, may be stupid question, but how standard sink taps and mixers are getting installed to toilet rooms? They do not require all this VPZ valves etc and just T-ed to the water supply. Should the principle be the same for bidet shower or eg for urinal installation? Re: Adding a water point in toilet 7Aug 07, 2020 12:43 pm You only need a backflow device where end of the water outlet can end up in a contained body of water and then under certain conditions draw water back into the scheme water, therefore introducing contamination. So really it's only shower hoses, bidet hoses and your garden hose that have this ability. Standard taps can never end up drawing water back into the plumbing. If you have a look at the links above it explains why it is necessary on bidets. I know garden taps installed in WA now all have basic backflow devices as standard. Note that many shower hoses have a backflow device anyway. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Re: Adding a water point in toilet 9Aug 08, 2020 9:07 pm Thanks for the respones all ; much appreciated It seems the best option i have is getting a point from the sink/vanity as all the other options appear to be costly ones. What about getting a toilet seat with bidet spray? Not sure if it exists or if you can guys can think of any other option?
