Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 25, 2020 5:59 pm Hello, I'm planning to build a 400 Sq ft tiny house on a pier and beam foundation. I'm building it myself (though I have no construction experience) and am trying to plan everything down to the last detail before I buy the land I have my eye on and submit for a building permit. I was wondering if anyone could point me to exact step by step directions of how to build a pier and beam foundation, or could answer my questions about how to build one. I've watched a lot of videos online and think I understand basically what to do but can't find any exact step by step directions, I really want to be sure I'm doing it right as it's my foundation. If anyone knows about pier and beam foundations here's my main questions- I see people putting rebar in to reinforce the concrete piers, how many of these do I need to put in and in what pattern? Do they go throughout the whole pier top to bottom? I see some people and articles say to dig the hole, put in gravel part way and than put in concrete. How much of the hole should be filled with gravel? ( I'm in Rhode Island so my posts are going to need to be over 5 feet to get below the frost line) I've also noticed some people don't do this at all. what diameter do the concrete posts need to be? How tall should they sick out above the ground? I see some people put a plank of wood in the concrete post and attach that to the skid, and some people have a metal footing, does it matter which I use? I should have followed up on this thread. So, the pier foundation wasn't large enough on the side it was leaning towards, and the NBN cable went through the pier, just… 8 10745 Just be careful with building stability during construction, that is when the structure may be weakened, refer to your engineering drawings for stability methodology. 1 6196 |
