Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 02, 2020 10:09 am Hello All, I recently got the pricing back from my builder. We are building a double story house which has east to west orientation and the master bedroom is planned in the south-west side of the house. He has also suggested me to go with Axon type cladding instead of brick? (refer image) I would like to know if the insulation suggested by the builder is good enough for all season? I am missing something when it comes to addl insulation required for south west side of the house? how much will axon cladding help me with insulation as compared with brick ? As it's pretty much impossible to upgrade wall insulation at a later time. I'd consider reflective foil insulation in the western walls, as they bear the brunt of hot afternoon summer sun. I hope you've got plans to shade the master bedroom window. A SW windows could get a lot of sun in summer evenings. Increasing the ceiling insulation shouldn't cost too much, although if it's too costly for you, it could always be done at a later time. I'd prefer to use a lightweight cladding instead of brick, as it has lower thermal mass. Brick will heat up during the day, & will take longer to cool down, due to its thermal mass. Re: Insulation - QLD weather 6Apr 03, 2020 1:57 pm Thank you so much ddarroch. So, I will ask him to provide a quote for the following 1. R4.1 for the ceiling in all living areas of the house 2. R3 in the walls - we are going with lightweight cladding. 3. Sarking in the ceiling 4. reflective foil insulation the SW side of the house. Am still learning the terms, is Sarking an additional requirement to having R4.1 batts in the ceiling? Hi all. Anyone know when the $11,000 limit was set in legislation for renovations in QLD?
