Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Do the right thing Metricon; close your display centres 3Mar 25, 2020 7:25 am NathanPS Well they have no choice now.. Scott has announced they will shut as of midnight tomorrow.. One thing to consider is to be considerate.. closing a business is not an easy task.. be mindful when demanding something in public, this situation is not easy on anyone enough as it is. I take your point; not an easy decision. However let’s be real; they’ve had ample time, and in my view it’s highly disappointing they were open as recently as yesterday. Being open this week isn’t consistent with the spirit if not the letter of Sunday’s restrictions. Even if last night’s restrictions don’t oblige them to close (are display homes counted as “open homes”?) they should be proactive and make the decision to close in fairness to their staff, their customers and our community. Re: Do the right thing Metricon; close your display centres 4Mar 25, 2020 7:53 am If you want to go down that route of “ample time”, so has our government, yet they’ve only just recently put some decisions into place.. once again not an easy decision. Scott specifically mentioned open homes last night as well. May I ask if you’ve personally been affected by a business closure? Do you know what it’s like to have your income be taken away from you overnight? Or perhaps close your business you’ve worked tirelessly getting it to where it is today with no idea if you’ll be able to re-establish yourself tomorrow? I’ll tell you right now in case you haven’t - it’s a horrible feeling. Re: Do the right thing Metricon; close your display centres 5Mar 25, 2020 2:00 pm They could create a virtual tour of all the displays and just have the sales office open. Re: Do the right thing Metricon; close your display centres 6Mar 25, 2020 5:33 pm They’ve only late this arvo communicated on their website their updated position: display visits still open albeit by appointment only. Again this does not seem to be acting in the spirit of last nights restrictions. The difficulty of the decision is not in question. Re: Do the right thing Metricon; close your display centres 7Mar 25, 2020 7:15 pm I'm sorry mate but you last posted here four years ago.. did you just come on to make a post about Metricon keeping their business alive during this difficult time or? Re: Do the right thing Metricon; close your display centres 8Mar 25, 2020 9:02 pm attack the man not the message. I don’t mind. Sunday there were 1000 cases here. Over 2000 as of last night. If we don’t bend that curve quickly people will die. Gatherings of people for non essential activity is not on at this point in the crisis. The PM has been dry clear on this. Why should cafes and gyms and cinemas bare the brunt of that but not Metricon? Keeping the displays open, even it it’s by appointment only, is in my view inexcusable, and unlikely to pass the pub test. Re: Do the right thing Metricon; close your display centres 11Mar 26, 2020 10:08 pm Hi Jack, Actually I myself am extremely high risk to a chronic disease thus you can shove your irrelevant comment back where it belongs. I think it's ironic how you've only mentioned Metricon when there are many other businesses still operating, it's obvious you have an issue with them and I feel you're being unjust and calling them out in such a difficult time. P.S. I have no affiliation to Metricon in the slightest. Re: Do the right thing Metricon; close your display centres 12Mar 27, 2020 6:57 am I called out Metricon because they are national and have to my knowledge the largest network of display homes. But indeed my concerns apply to any volume builder with a significant display network who haven’t closed their displays. To their credit one builder Boutique Homes have promoted the fact their sales staff are available on all the online video platforms: Zoom, FaceTime etc. Re: Do the right thing Metricon; close your display centres 14Mar 28, 2020 2:03 am Hi jack, I respect your concerns The government has decided the construction industry as an essential business. I don’t think this risk is any different to a takeaway coffee shop. The open house for a spec home is really part of the construction process. Selling an established home is not, maybe this is why it seems out of whack. I believe the governments current main goal is to control the rate of infections not stop them. They are also trying to keep as many people at work for as long as possible. I am sure some decisions are questionable like the QLD elections this weekend, ( I am told I am not allowed to rant about the decision anymore) I have to believe we have experts making informed decisions on this topic.
