Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Grout issue Montgomery Homes and Tile Direct 3Mar 22, 2020 9:52 am That kind of looks like an issue with cleaning product more than a sealer to me. But hard to tell without photos prior to the sealer being applied. Re: Grout issue Montgomery Homes and Tile Direct 4Mar 24, 2020 6:51 pm Stella80 We built with Montgomery Homes who uses Tile Direct for their tiles. At our Tile Direct selection appointment the sales lady specifically told us that we need to go to Bunnings and buy and apply a grout sealant after we move in to protect the grout. We followed her advice and applied a clear sealant after cleaning the tiles and grout as best we could. Our grout looks awful it is patchy discoloured, dark in side the shower areas. Both Montgomery Homes and Tile Direct refuse to be responsible for rectifying this. We have had external tilers come in and tell us the issue is not the sealant but the grout used - being a cheap gritty grout thats now had builders dirt mixed in. Tile Direct came in and tried to blame Montgomery's builders. Montgomery tried to blame Tile Direct. Now both are saying it is our fault for applying the sealant. Even worse, Montgome Homes now tells us that our warranty is void because we applied the sealant! We only applied it because Tile Direct told us we had to. Has anyone had this issue and what can we do? We will be lodging a complaint with fair trading but also wanted to warn people of the appalling after care service of Montgomery Homes. The internet is full of bad reviews of Tile Direct! Got a call andthey sent someone out to rectify it. Looks so much better now with proper coloured grout. After handover from Montgomery last year we had a tiler on site two days a week for 4 months repairing the hundreds of defects in our bathrooms. Dealing with them and Tile Direct (now rebranded as Thynk) put me on the verge of a breakdown as they were also sending in trades for other defect repairs. I still have issues with tiles that don’t line up, or lippage but they refuse to acknowledge those issues. They had the hide to tell me the tiler did a really good job and that some of my defects were just an optical Illusion from the dark tile against a white grout....total rubbish. They then used the excuse that fixing it would create more problems, and the imposition to us now we’re living here would be too much. The next day they told me the floor in one of the showers needed to be redone... so much for their good tiler hey. I would also suggest putting a negative review on the product review website, but do not be pressured into removing it. They will remind you of the contract you signed etc and demand you remove it or they will take legal action. Just remind them that even the people leaving a positive review have broken the terms of the contract. But they’re quite happy to leave those there. Re: Grout issue Montgomery Homes and Tile Direct 8May 02, 2020 9:52 am We did end up going ahead with the review andthey agreed to fix it. Tiles were just regrouted in the showers by tile direct. Grout has now dried but still looks like this not uniform at all. No idea what they are doing to get this result. gcnicho I’m not sure you will have much luck with them I’m afraid. All sorts of tile discoloration etc etc will occur. Unless u go it clean your grout prestingly every few days. My suggestion is Pick your battles. Re: Grout issue Montgomery Homes and Tile Direct 11May 03, 2020 12:18 pm Which is testament to the inconsistency of Tile Direct. We have three showers in our Montgomery home, and only one has been done to allow proper drainage. When originally questioned on why they were different they told me that was ‘normal’. Then I got told one of them did in fact need to be totally redone. I asked them if you’re doing one, why not the other? Their answer? “Well you don’t use that third shower often, so any problems would take many years to surface, so it’s up to you if you want the intrusion of having us do even more rework” Re: Grout issue Montgomery Homes and Tile Direct 12May 03, 2020 12:21 pm gcnicho I’m not sure you will have much luck with them I’m afraid. Regarding negative reviews, don’t be concerned about any restraining contract clauses, or other attempts at censorship by builders, In 2018 the ACCC has cleared the way for people to comment openly without fear of legal or other action per https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/w ... ract-terms If any builders such as Montgomery Homes threaten consumers with legal action or other actions such as indicating they won't fix defects etc due to negative reviews they should be immediately reported to the ACCC here: https://www.accc.gov.au/contact-us/cont ... umer-issue Hi, I am wondering if anyone has built with Montgomery in the last few years on the Northern Beaches? I don't see the see them around, as I would love to ask how happy… 0 3197 Thanks splashers, that makes sense. The waterproofing guy used this Davco product, I will raise the issue with builder and hopefully get resolved with him - if not… 2 12896 Hey guys, what’s everyone opinion on James Hardie linea direct fix to frame?
