We will be building in Alamanda and definitely want to go with the fibre optics. However, I believe Carlisle won't allow access to any contractors other than their own contractors during the build due to Health & Safety. So I guess Carlisle will have to install it. What stage of Alamanda are you in? I have been informed by Carlisle that included in our house price is a smart wiring 'light' package stipulated by Alamanda. This package includes: - StarServe Cabinet (WSC) - Telstra Lead in Cable - Broadband Lead in Cable - Pay TV Lead in Cable - 4 Telephone/ TV/ Data/ Internet points - Satellite/ Foxtel IQ Cables - 4 Patch leads It looks as though this is the "Telstra Smart Community" package offered by Argus Technologies, which is the approved contractor for Carlisle homes. As they are including a Telstra lead in Cable, and it's the "Telstra Smart Community" package, does this mean we will be locked into using Telstra products for our internet and telephone? This is something we really want to avoid. I have contacted Argus Technologies and asked them if other ISPs can use their cabling, but they told me they didn't know. I have also contacted Internode ISP and asked the same question, but they didn't know either. Carlise Homes don't know, nor do OptiComm. Djelibeybi, you mentioned that you have the fibre optics connected with OptiComm. How did you get connected? Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks! Re: Fibre optic connection in Alamanda 15May 19, 2009 1:19 pm pcan Djelibeybi, you mentioned that you have the fibre optics connected with OptiComm. How did you get connected? For Opticomm, you need the following lead-in cabling: 1x Quad-Shield RG6 (for Analog/Digital FTA/Foxtel signal) 2x CAT5e (for Internet/Telephone/Future IPTV signal) I would ask Carlisle the exact types of cabling the "Telstra" lead-in and "Broadband" lead-in are. Also, Opticomm provided us with a "Cabling Entry Guide" which details the exact type/location of cabling to integrate the fibre with your home wiring. You could ask your estate or Opticomm for a copy of that guide to provide to your builder. Re: Fibre optic connection in Alamanda 16May 19, 2009 2:02 pm Thanks for that info. I really appreciate it. I don't fully understand how it all works. I do have the cabling entry guide from OptiComm and I have asked at Carlisle to speak to someone who knows about the the process involved smart wiring the house through them. So once I speak to them I can forward them on the Cabling entry guide. Cheers! Re: Fibre optic connection in Alamanda 17May 19, 2009 2:39 pm pcan Thanks for that info. I really appreciate it. Telstra has a huge document on wiring and I assume it would be the same. http://www.telstra.com.au/smartcommunit ... y_0509.pdf disclaimer: I'm a Telstra employee. Re: Fibre optic connection in Alamanda 18May 19, 2009 3:03 pm wakeboardandy Telstra has a huge document on wiring and I assume it would be the same. Alamanda is an Opticomm-serviced estate, so the Telstra documentation may be confusing. It would be better to refer to the Opticomm Cable Entry Guide as the authourative source. Re: Fibre optic connection in Alamanda 20May 19, 2009 7:19 pm I am also building with Carlisle in Alamanda. I think there will be Carlisle houses everywhere!!! lol I have had a few problems trying to get information from Carlisle about the optical fibre wiring. The CLE, tender person, colour people and any other person I have spoken to there doesn't know what to do with the cabling. They just referred me to Argus Technologies. I have spoken to Argus and recieved a quote. The quote I was given was for the bigger package and they took off a few points that we didn't require (we won't be needing 10 phone points!!) My CLE commented that it might be possible to get the cabling done through Opticomm instead of Argus. Opticomm must be allowed on site to install the termination box (usually in the garage I think). They also have the right insurance, which I think is the main reason Carlisle don't allow others on site. I am going to get a quote from both to get the best price Building Monaco32 with Carlisle Homes in Alamanda Estate 20/08/2010 - HANDOVER 24/8!!
