Speaking of which don't pay all the attention to the water behind the wall and forget about where that what is going bearing in mind the expansive clay founding soils. The answer is probably both-aim to divert all water away from the wall (and any footings) but provide a lightly compacted free-draining backfill to the wall to ensure elevated pressures do not occur in the event of blocked drainage, flooding etc. Re: Front yard, retaining wall and sloping of lawn - drainag 4Jun 19, 2020 6:00 am chanam Two different views and suggestion provided by two different landscapers. 1) slope lawn/ground away from retaining wall (u shaped) into middle of lawn with storm water pit collection point (surface water) from all four sides...goes underground and spills out to kerbside or 2) slope land from front of house to front retaining wall and water seeps down against wall to ag pipe or/and dispels through weep hole. Which is a safer option and not detrimental or putting presure on retaining wall? Retaining wall height is from 1m to 1.4m to be done in core filled besser block. Red clay soil with h1/h2 soil and is small lot. Front yard to be turfed - is only approx 40m2. Looking for advice. Thanks you.
