I'd put one in the entry (with a gorgeous light fitting for impact) Then your stairwell also acts as a void. If you must have another one (and bear in mind noise travels up a void) Put it in a long rectangle in the family room and up into the activity room. You could put a feature fireplace in the family room, continue the stone/tiles etc all the way up to 2nd floor ceiling. The heat will rise and assist with warming the room.
