Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jan 04, 2020 12:14 pm Hi all, My recently built house has a rendered EPS foam wall (75mm thick) that's around 4 metres long running down the side of the house. There's an approx. 1 metre gap between that foam wall and the wooden boundary fence running parallel with it. I'm wondering how one would go about installing a fence/gate post to that foam wall as part of putting side gate/fence there to block off access to the side of the house. I assume you wouldn't try to fix the fence post directly to the foam wall because I imagine if you tightened the bolts sufficiently it would damage/crush the foam? So would you remove a rectangular section of the foam all the way to a stud, then attach some kind of backer, attach the fence post to the backer, then seal that up? Or would you drill a few holes through the foam to the stud, insert small sections of pipe in those holes, then fix the post to the ends of those pipe sections (i.e. so the pipe sections would take all the pressure of the post instead of the foam being crushed)? I wouldn't do it myself but I'm wondering what the best practice would be if I did decide to have a side fence/gate put there. Ideally, I'd want a side gate on this foam wall because I want my gate to be as close to the front of the house as possible. My other option is to put a gate a few metres further down the side of the house where there is a brick wall. Thanks a lot Re: Attaching a side gate/fence to an EPS foam wall 2Jan 04, 2020 6:23 pm I would be putting a past against the foam wall to hinge the gate off ensuring it is firmly concreted down. You want to avoid any penetration into the foam as this will allow water to find its way it and you would need to get lucky to find a stud as well. I would use a can of expandable foam ( there are some that will take render) then cut it back and render over the top 1 4141 Hi, Building a new place and I have limited space from garage to fence. 3130mm width, then opens up over 5000mm once I pass tmy garage.
