I know the bb has a higher Janka but the ss is not hugely different- how much does this matter? Also the ss is slightly cheaper- does this indicate lower quality? I will just say that: (1) durability is not just dependent on the type of timber, but also the finish you choose; and (2) all floors will mark eventually, but with solid timber the marks appear more as patina, whereas with other flooring, marks just tend to look like damage. Re: Which timber for flooring- New England blackbutt or silv 6Dec 19, 2019 10:45 am Thanks, for anyone researching later we decided on the blackbutt floors, I like the look and the hardness and we were told it resists termites while the stringy bark doesn't, it's also rated well for bushfire. Can't wait to see it finished! Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15909 Thank you.
