Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Colour Selection Help: Brick, Front Door, Caesarstone 3Oct 28, 2019 12:31 pm Nice colour selection. I would go with Barwon too but since it is gonna cost extra, it is down to your preference. Door wise, I would not go with double doors. Again, this is personal preference. I would choose 1200mm wide door as it feels grand enough. What are your render colours? Re: Colour Selection Help: Brick, Front Door, Caesarstone 4Oct 28, 2019 1:11 pm kester Nice colour selection. Veiled Dusk (colour code : S1488) for render in pillars and Grain Harvest (colour code : SN3D4) for the rest of the walls. What do your opinion about it ☺️ Thanks once again. The darker render (veiled dusk) complements the face brick nicely. From facade picture, the dark blue roof tile feels out of place to me. Re: Colour Selection Help: Brick, Front Door, Caesarstone 7Oct 28, 2019 10:13 pm I haven't seen your floorplan, but I'm assuming there is no other natural light to your hallway. The double solid doors, whilst looking nice, allows no natural light into your hallway, and can make the area look dark. Having a double glass door (like in your facade photo) looks like french doors that would open onto a patio. I would therefore personally, go with a single door plus sidelight. Privacy/security was the main reason I was hesitant to go to side light. But considering way having more light, it inevitable too. You may be able to stick the window film from Bunnings to solve your problem. Have a look at the link below. https://www.bunnings.com.au/our-range/b ... indow/film Re: Colour Selection Help: Brick, Front Door, Caesarstone 12Oct 29, 2019 8:55 pm I was deciding between brown terrain and barwon too but went against brown terrain in the end because it’s quite inconsistent. You can get a list of addresses from PGH with houses already built in these bricks for you to compare. I’d go with single wide door with sidelight. My current house has double doors and yes, they do get jammed after a while due to alignment. I’ve gone with white shimmer because I like the slight glitters in the stone Re: Colour Selection Help: Brick, Front Door, Caesarstone 13Oct 29, 2019 10:00 pm aloha I was deciding between brown terrain and barwon too but went against brown terrain in the end because it’s quite inconsistent. Originally when I paid my deposit, my plan was called Piermont 29. However, 2 weeks after my deposit with my builder, they updated the plan to a new version called Piermont 29MK2. Facade : Porch depth reduction of 60mm (720mm to 660mm) --> I feel this will take out bit charm of the facade, isn't it? Positive side would be another 60mm space to the backyard. (please see the comparison pic below) Entry : 1020mm wide single door + Side lights instead of double doors (2 * 820mm) --> they said it was made based on the maintenance support due to double door issues, which I kind of agree to. Bath : Height of the window has been reduced to 1372mm from 1543 with additional tiles between bath tub and window. --> they said it was made based on the maintenance support due to water damage issues as the window start right where the bathtub ends. --> kind of agree with them, though large window aesthetically may be appealing, but window would be susceptible to water displaced from the bathtub. (please see the comparison pic below) One thing I noticed off late was the material used for cladding - I went with this facade was the wooden cladding look. Original Piermont 29 had "133X15 WESTERN RED CEDAR 'V-JOINTED' CLADDING WITH 6mm FC SHEET BEHIND", but the new Piermont 29MK2 has got "ORIGINAL PROFILE COMPOSITE CLADDING WITH 6MM FC SHEET BEHIND" (please see the comparison pic below) - I feel like composite will not have real wood look. Also, it is pretty new and not tested. It has 15 years limited warranty, but no one has no idea how long it will really last compared to WESTERN RED CEDAR would last typically 40 years if it is taken care somewhat. What do you think? Should I ask my builder to get me the old plan so that I will have larger looking facade - 720mm depth instead of 660mm in the new 29MK2 + WESTERN RED CEDAR cladding instead of COMPOSITE CLADDING in the new 29MK2. I should be able to change the door from double to single + sidelight for free I guess ( They charge extra $350 to move from single + sidelight to double ). But probably what I would miss out would be the bathroom window reduction to 1372mm from 1543 with additional tiles between bath tub and window which is present in 29MK2. These pro and cons are making me confused. Should I stick to the new 29Mk2 as is or should ask my builder to change it to the original one for which I paid the deposit for. Original plan vs new - should I ask my builder to revert back to the old plan, I am totally confused :?: Thanks, Shi Re: Colour Selection Help: Brick, Front Door, Caesarstone 16Oct 30, 2019 10:22 pm I'm not sure anyone would notice a 60mm difference in the depth of a porch, to be honest. That's two and a half inches, in the grand scheme of the whole house! I would prefer having the raised window next to the bath, but that's because I have young kids, and they'll sure flood the window sill. Also, if you're not having the window frosted, then you're kind of on display to the outside world with the window sill that low. Cedar is lovely and natural, but it will fade over time, and does need a bit of maintenance over the years. Composite, I am assuming means wood- plastic composite, which could be anything from wood fibre saw dust to bamboo to peanut shells and rice husks mixed with a plastic such as polyethylene or PVC. The exact mix will effect the longevity of the composite, but if it is a decent composite, it should last at least as long as the cedar with no maintenance at all. Whether you prefer the natural weathered look of real wood, or the maintenance free always new look of composite is a personal choice.
