Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Advice on house alarm 4Aug 14, 2007 8:45 am My last house had a NESS D8.
8 zone controller and dialler. http://www.ness.com.au/control.htm I liked it. Re: Advice on house alarm 5Aug 14, 2007 9:36 am People like ADT or watch 24 or one other guy from this forum (I think it was Bigpete and he was the cheapest) all cost about $1000-$1500 for about 3 zone, 2 automatic key stand alone system.
Then if you want the 24 hour monitoring service then you are looking about $40-$50 per month. I have an optus cable & Engin phone working beautifully. No standard telephone lines coming into the house. Monitoring service people need a standard telephone line! That would cost at least another $20.00 a month! Re: Advice on house alarm 6Aug 14, 2007 9:42 am I never used the monitoring. I just had the alarm call my mobile phone when it went off. Re: Advice on house alarm 7Aug 14, 2007 12:01 pm We have a Bosch alarm.
It has 8 movement detectors as well as 3 smoke detectors & 2 heat detectors. It's not monitored at the moment but texts me if anything goes off...& also sends a daily report. I find it much more customisable than the old alarm we had at our previous house. ***edited to add*** oops...it has 5 smoke detectors...but 3 of those were the ones PD supplied. We also upgraded to 16 zones to cope with the additional heat detectors, etc. Re: Advice on house alarm 11Aug 14, 2007 8:35 pm Here's a breakdown on what Argus were charging & what we had installed over & above the basic system (everything is listed but obviously we didn't choose everything). Sorry about the formatting (I've just taken it from an Excell spreadsheet)... The number at the beginning is how many we were charged for (if there's no number, we didn't include it)... the numbers at the end of the lines are the price per unit & the total price.
I don't think they're the cheapest &, as I've said in other threads, I wouldn't necessarily recommend them as providers (& PD don't usually use them for alarms...it's just that we had them do a whole lot of other stuff as well & just decided to get everything all at once). The alarm's booklet just says it's a Bosch Solution 16Plus...there doesn't appear to be any other model number. HOW TO INSTALL A HOME SECURITY SYSTEM 1. Go to a second-hand store and buy a pair of men's used size 14-16 work boots. 2. Place them on your front porch, along with a copy of Guns & Ammo Magazine. 3. Put a few giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazines. 4. Leave a note on your door that reads: 'Hey Bubba, Big Jim, Duke , Slim, & I went for more ammunition. Back in an hour. Don't mess with the pit bulls - they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up real bad. I don't think Killer took part in it but it was hard to tell from all the blood. Anyway, I locked all four of 'em in the house. Better wait outside. 'Cooter' Re: Advice on house alarm 16Aug 22, 2007 7:48 am I think the NESS alarms are the ones PD use in their homes? Tender appointment tomorrow, and we will be getting an alarm fitted.
I'd like to fit one after hand over, however it's a double storey - which makes it difficult and expensive to fit afterwards. Alarms from electronics stores 17Sep 12, 2007 6:22 pm The option we went with was to go through an electronics store and install ourselves.
Got a 5 zone kit with panel, sensors, break glass and all the wire etc for $600 and it does the whole call and sms if it goes off. Apparently you can even hear what's going on in the house when it calls, and set the alarm from your phone.... We got it from Jaycar, was an AV-Gad brand 5 zone version, there's also an 8 zone version too for under $900... Also helps if you're handy i guess. Re: Advice on house alarm 18Sep 12, 2007 10:06 pm Perry heres a tip.
Run Cat5 cable to everywhere you think there will be a sensor before the plaster goes up for your upstairs areas. It may not be necessary to cover he upstairs though as most people will only come in from the bottom doors of the house... You can access the external walls downstairs the same as upstairs once the house is complete (even with 2 storeys) and most houses have the PIR's on the external walls anyway.
