Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Sep 24, 2019 10:44 pm Hi, New to the forum and would love some advice. We are installing a new kitchen and had to repair and replace some of the existing hardwood floors to a section where a laundry had been. The joins look a bit large to me, but never having floors replaced before I'm unsure if I'm being critical? The flooring guy has said he will fill the gaps with putty, but the cuts on the boards don't look straight. Thanks in advance for your help. So, you need to repair your hardwood floor. Re: Hardwood floor repair 4Sep 27, 2019 11:21 am I think it could have been done a lot better. The butt joint should have been checked for fit without gaps before the board was nailed. The trick in the trade is not to cut the end square but at slightly obtuse angle. That will allow two top surfaces to come together without gaps.
