Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 06, 2010 2:49 pm Hey All, I'm around 1 month away from moving into my new house and i was wondering about purchasing furniture and white-goods. I would love to know about recommendations for buying furniture in melbourne. Where would u recommend to buy cheap furniture, like couches, dining table, chairs etc...and what are thoughts on buying packages where u can pay off the money over 12 months? Cheers, Sam To do it single handedly.. seriously.. its a PAIN! Re: Recommendation to buy furnitures and white-goods 2Sep 06, 2010 4:56 pm Try DFO at Essendon Airport. Lots of stuff there. Also the home shopping centre in Maribyrnong opposite Highpoint. For white goods and electrical have found The Good Guys at either location to be good. Also JB for TVs etc. H/Norm@n have found to be poor. Re: Recommendation to buy furnitures and white-goods 3Sep 06, 2010 5:26 pm Couches I got for free from friends. But for all the odds n ends of furniture (like bookcases, coffee tables, lamp tables) fairly cheaply Ikea was a god send Built with RedInk Custom 5000 Key Handover 15/12/2009 Re: Recommendation to buy furnitures and white-goods 4Sep 06, 2010 5:45 pm My problem with the furniture packages are that I didn't like half of the stuff in them (I am a bit fussy ). But the price is certainly right! I got my lounge and washing machine from Harvey Norman- I suggest you wait until they're on special or you can get a good deal (for instance I got my washing machine with double manufacturer's warranty included and free delivery). They also often have a number of months interest free which helps to pay it off gradually. There are certainly cheaper lounges out there but I was a bit concerned about getting leather which wasn't cured properly (I recently lived in England and they have had heaps of people developing skin problems because of cheap leather ) If you're looking for lowest prices maybe also try Super A-Mart; I've not been there but their catalogues have just about the cheapest prices I have seen. Also, you really can't go past Ikea for quality and price - just make sure you do your research Re: Recommendation to buy furnitures and white-goods 5Sep 06, 2010 11:31 pm If your on the west side of Melbourne, there is a furniture place in Melton. We bought a hardwood king size bed, 3 tallboys and 2 night stands for $2,200. Whitegoods your best bet is Graysonline on a Tuesday or Saturday. PM for more details otherwise good luck! Re: Recommendation to buy furnitures and white-goods 6Sep 18, 2019 10:02 pm other than the ones I got from friends/family. I've bought all my white goods on this website: https://www.appliancesonline.com.au Haven't had any issues with them so far. Re: Recommendation to buy furnitures and white-goods 7Sep 19, 2019 12:18 pm If you want a leather Sofa, you need to get the top grain leather. I did my research and Plush Sofas came out well, we love ours. Wait till a 50% off sale (I think they are having one now?), you need to be prepared. Re: Recommendation to buy furnitures and white-goods 8Apr 28, 2020 12:14 am If you’re on Facebook, then check out Marketplace, it’s surprising how much good quality furniture people sell, in brand new or almost new condition, and for a lot less than the original cost.
