Hi. Has anyone built with SIP Panels in Perth WA or on m class soil

JWH group did some 2 Storeys for the Department of housing when I worked for JWH, that was around 2008, I was in Albany at the time and there was a few builders tinkering with them down there, obviously the r value is high but also the cost was as well, I would think that's still the case

Rather than SIP consider MgO boards sandwiched around frame with some natural insulation in between (such as cotton batts or blowed in cellulose).

This will give you one of the best lightweight systems.

MgO panels can be either rendered from the outside (consider natural render such as lime or stucco paint) and either rendered or painted from the inside. No gyprock will be needed. You can also use for the ceiling.

Comparing to gyprock or any other cladding, they are resistant to water and mould, very hygroscopic, much more impact resistant and can be loadbearing/structural (e.g. you can use them also to replace OSB for your flooring). It should be cheaper to install them too.

MgO panels are also non-combustible A1 fire resistant, they can easily provide 240/240/240 fire resistance, can be used in BAL40 zones.

Awesome material for lightweight building. They cost less than $3 per sqm when imported from China in bulk.

There are many brands available in Australia.

Thanks for the Promt feed back. It's seems they're both just as expensive although a better option for sure..

Talk to your Engineer, Steer well clear from PE Cladding
Australian homes covered in combustible cladding but few residents can afford to fix them

Well I've been banging my head against building a double brick home in WA for ages. I've done the earth works myself saving $$$ however knowing it is m class soil etc wanted a light frame building, insulate the hell out of it and use 6 3/8 glass to help accustics etc. We live on a flight path and have had cheap quote to double glaze of Canon double glazing in Perth. $16000 for a 4x2 250sqm. Opted for the thicker glass option as its A cheaper.

Ventura homes have offered to build Brick veneer for the same price and will insulate all internal and external walls, so we'll sign this week. Just got to make sure the articulation joints etc are correct as you stated in one of your previous post. Love your work.
I will get an independent to check the build also as a lot on here have suggested.
In Perth it appears some people want double brick and it's a better resale etc however I just want the best suited home for the site that is cost effective to heat and cool, if that makes sense

Resale is the Killer Tho not when they weigh up alternative and potential issues

The bugger is, too, that it's not the insulation product that is specified that is so vital, but how and with what care all is installed. It's not just insulation product but air and vapour movements inside the building cavities that have to be understood and managed. The Europeans really understand this, now - as building clients, as builders, and as certifying authorities. Best of luck with that in Oz as young Jane, that lovely international student studying hospitality at the Upstairs University while sustaining themselves on $12 ph with the builder you chose, happily bungs the batts into the structure.

Oh, and don't use SIP in Oz, you're going to have to sell the place one day.

I'm in the hills and the next problem is the storm water.
I slope back from the road with no shire mains to tap into therefore have to try and see how to retain the storm on an m class clay site, plus not enough room for big water tanks. In the past I recall someone mentioning a detention system. I'll have to look into this further I guess

Hahaha, not quite.
Hence this forum for people who would like advise on these matters of interest from people who have experienced it, or know ways around it. I'm from the uk, worked on building sites most my life and am learning slowly lol.
I was one of the team on site who installed the pipe work for storm water and sewer connections. Everything was piped to the mains. We layed the road kerbs for flow to the drains....retaining storm water was never an option.
Double, triple glazing is as cheap as chips. The brickies layed bricks to the damp course and we screeded off that level etc etc
The U.K. Could learn a lot from the methods in Aus and visa versa I reckon.

structuralBIMGuy PE Cladding and SIPs are 2 very different materials. I have given examples in a reply to you on another page, see below...
