Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Metricon or Clarendon....Can't decide?? 7Sep 06, 2019 9:37 pm Aussieoi I would recommend Clarendon. Im not going to drag Metricon down but i haven't heard good things. If in doubt theres this business called Compare My New Home that i think would come in helpful when thinking of things like this. I find some of their content informative. Thanks Aussieoi, appreciate the tip will definitely check out "Compare My New Home" Re: Metricon or Clarendon....Can't decide?? 8Sep 06, 2019 9:40 pm Norfolk Metricon have some good designs plus a very slick marketing and sales process for the pre sales / contract signing stage. Be aware however they have no quality assurance process nationally for their pre construction admin or construction phases. Build quality will be up to you to check and manage if it’s important to you. I also understand their warranty phase service is very poor. Once you sign the contract you will have no further contact with their sales staff, and you will experience a different level of service and culture to what perceptions you will have got from their pre sales stage. Don’t just check the designs, inclusions and pricing. Check the sample contracts from each company very carefully regarding quality, timings, costs, payments etc. in the current depressed market you can negotiate with builders. Once the sales process is over and you have signed up the contract will define the relationship you have with the builder, everything else is just sales talk and marketing representations. Thanks Norfolk, didn't know that they have no quality assurance process, which is very important to us. Again thanks for the advice, definitely gives us something to think about. Re: Metricon or Clarendon....Can't decide?? 9Sep 06, 2019 9:41 pm Joker Speak to current home builds in your area for both builders, experiences in other areas which don't use the same trades can be misleading. Thanks Joker, definitely a good idea. I can imagine operations in each state would be very different. Re: Metricon or Clarendon....Can't decide?? 10Sep 07, 2019 5:47 am Adelz Thanks TiredHalo, appreciate the feedback. Based on our inclusions the price between Metricon and Clarendon are almost the same, making the decision even more difficult...although we do get more house for our money with Clarendon. I agree with you re the "Freedom" range, we walked through their design studio and realised we are going to have to upgrade quite a lot of items so will need to a seperate budget just for that. Can I ask did you go with the Sapphire inclusions? If so how did you find it...did you end up upgrading a lot? And yes I have a feeling with only the "S" level provided by Metricon our site costs will hike up. Thanks again, I have been following your thread on your build of the Sheridan 41 and you have built a beautiful home. Yes, we went with the Sapphire Inclusions. We then upgraded our Kitchen and Ensuite to Diamond level. Otherwise, sapphire is pretty good. A lot of our upgrades were then to our WIP & Laundry to match the Kitchen cabinetry for flow, full height tiling to main bathroom. Then you get the usual stuff I get included (others do post-handover) like the flooring which I upgraded. Clarendon do have a Sapphire Plus price, essentially adding $10,000 to the price (or it was when we did it) that covers up to a site level of 'H1'. Are you building in north or south GC? And thank you. We still have a bit of work to do, re landscaping and stuff, but we are liking our new home. We're doing the same in terms of upgrading the WIP, Laundry and flooring plus we have made some structural changes to the plans. Looks like Clarendon may be the winner for us. We're building in central GC. I thought this would be a popular question but I haven't been able to find any similar posts. Perhaps I'm wording my searches wrong?
