I am seeking your help with 4 main questions. 1) We are planning stone bench throughout, for kitchen and Island. I am confused between 20 mm stone and 40 mm stone. Is it good to have waterfall for kitchen island? 2) What will be the best option for theatre door? 2 sliding doors from both the sides or double doors? or any other ideas? 3) Is it good to have a door between kitchen and butler’s pantry and a sliding door between butler’s pantry and laundry. 4) Any other suggestions are welcome Waiting for your valuable inputs Thanks in advance, Shi Re: Building new house - Kitchen and Theater help 2Aug 16, 2019 11:13 pm 20mm and 40mm stone is exactly what the description is. One is 20mm thick, the other is 40mm thick. The thicker benchtop looks more solid and imposing and is more expensive, but it's a personal preference. As are waterfall ends. For a theatre door, I'd go for the solid double doors, as sliding doors and their cavity wall are harder to insulate from noise, and being a theatre, you'd probably want that. Doors between kitchen and pantry and laundry are again a personal preference. I've put a sliding door between mine, but it'll probably be open most of the time anyway! Thank you Ben Based on what read in most of the threads, for 40mm, it is just a 20mm thick stone with additional 20mm plastered at the edge alone as a frame making it 40mm. Not sure if that got changed of late My confusion with door is mainly with the one between Kitchen and Butler's pantry. With the current design, I can only put the regular door and not a slider. It has 900mm opening, just wondering keeping a regular door would make it unpleasant or not. Re: Building new house - Kitchen and Theater help 4Aug 17, 2019 8:36 am 40 bench is 20 with an extra layer around the edge, as you described. Purely personal preference. Same with waterfall. I decided not to have the waterfall as I want to use all four sides of our island. It’s hard to comment on the doors without seeing the floor plan. Re: Building new house - Kitchen and Theater help 5Aug 17, 2019 9:34 am Theatre I recently built. Visualise where you will put screen. See where you will place your fronts and think if normal doors opening inside would anyway would have an instruction. I miised to move my doors to middle of the room. I have attached the complete plan now. It would be great if you could have a look Re: Building new house - Kitchen and Theater help 9Aug 17, 2019 12:10 pm The door I am worried about is the regular door between kitchen and Butler's Pantry (900mm opening). I also think it would be better have a sliding door between Butler's Pantry and Laundry. I have decided to have 2740mm ceiling height throughout the home. Regarding the front door, I was looking for a double door considering I have 2000mm opening. But my builder is insisting to have 1020mm wide x 2340mm high front entry door for more security. Is that a wise option when there is a 2000mm opening? Re: Building new house - Kitchen and Theater help 10Aug 17, 2019 12:54 pm I replied to your PM. But also, I think the 2740 ceiling will be very nice. Re: Building new house - Kitchen and Theater help 11Aug 17, 2019 1:36 pm Hillsbuilds I replied to your PM. Thank you Hillsbuilds Re: Building new house - Kitchen and Theater help 12Aug 17, 2019 2:32 pm In regards to front door, you could have a pivot 1200 door, looks great rather than a standard door, but agree about security, double doors are less secure. We have 3m entrance but still only having one large door. I recently went through a similar renovation and move scenario when updating our family home.
